Custom Laminated body.

I am looking at the possibility of using polyurethane instead of the teak oil. A good friend said  that since there are multiple panels glued together, there would be a nicer smoother finish.
I will definitely try both on scrap wood before I decide on final choice.
Thanks for any guidance guys.
Jeff.

For those who are intrigued, the enclosed pic is my latest panel laying on top of the cavity that it will be going in on Saturday.
You can see how the panels have to be glued up to be roughly the same shape as the cavity then trimmed and angled  properly so it will lay correctly while saturated in glue on all 5 sides.
Boy , what a mess! But it will look good in the end.
  Jeff.

I have no idea which way is up or sideways, or which parts of a guitar the arch and H are, but it's a very interesting project to watch. Please keep the posts coming.

I have no idea either, I look forward to seeing what it turns into.
Glad I'm not the only one who's lost! As I asked in my first post to this thread: "What am I looking at?" Even so, I too anxiously await seeing the final design....

Whew... I thought it was just me. All will be revealed to us in due time. And, yes, it's a very interesting one to follow.

+1!!  Not sure where the guitar is ... but I'm sure there's one there somewhere.  :occasion14:

Hi guys and gals in Guitar land!! Sorry about all the confusion.  Yes it it is a big gluey mess with wood and crap going 16 different directions.  My apologies.
I am a person of intense color and imagination.
Below is an enclosed  pic of a 1980 Kenworth cabover that was part of the inspiration  of this project.
Promise, the images are confusing right now but you guys will understand in the long run.
The "V" and "H" are there because I am an immense VanHalen fan.
      See ya soon! Jeff.

Could use some guidance/help guys and gals.
Once my body is done and all lamination work is completed, I will need to find a CNC router operator who can cut all the openings for the bridges, pickups, and the Floyd Rose  temple. I am working with Warmoth on the proper stuff to purchase but getting the fine machining done is priority.
Unfortunately, Warmoth can not cut it for me because of liability  reasons.
Finally , for those of you who asked about direction , if you look at the pic where the arch is pointing up, that area is where the Padauk neck will attach. And once done , when you stand the guitar on end in a stand, the V and H will be very prevalent.
Keeping y'all posted from Southern Ohio.
    Thanks Jeff.

Does it really have to be cnc'ed? A router and accurate templates would take care of it much more easily for a one-off.

How are you planning to shape the perimeter? The router and template approach might not work so well with all those different grain directions going on.

No it does not necessarily need to be
CNC'ed. But I do not have the templates.
So I was thinking about cheating and go to guitar center here in Ohio and trace a Fender Stratocaster by hand.
Going to do some research  with some local help and get my ducks in a row before I have any cuts made.
    Thanks Jeff.

For router patterns, go to Faction Guitars. His patterns are really good and you can get all the cavity routs from his Strat or Tele patterns (or one of the other patterns he offers). That way, all the layout work is done and you just need to start routing.

:kewlpics:Ok guys , enclosed is a screenshot of the component parts that I will more than likely be installing in my build. I was told Humbucker pickups are the best. Tell what ya think? I am still learning parts and pieces.
Thanks Jeff
