Building my first body.

If you're going to do slant pickups, make a slant fretboard too...

You have beautifull woods... Can you PM me about your pens?
Cheers

I wonder if Warmoth would do a 24 fret neck, and leave the last few frets off? Then I could cut off the end at a slant. :blob7:

What did you want to know about the pens?

Wow man great job with that bridge! It looks like everything lines up perfect! I could imagine that a floyd rose as your first bridge could be a little intimidating, but really, great job :icon_thumright:
Thanks.

I think I'm going to do the recess a bit shallower on the "real" build, but the routing came out great. :icon_biggrin:

I'd like to know the models, woods you have got, prices...
PMs exchanged. :blob7:

Now I need to route the bridge pickup and do the wire channels. Does anyone know what the standard location for a humbucker bridge pickup is? I need to know the distance from the nut to the center of the humbucker.

Nice figuring, and good job bookmatching. Is it my imagination, or is that a bigger piece than it needs to be?

Well, these are the pics from the guy that prepared the blank for me, so he gets the compliments on the bookmatching. :blob7:

The length is about 18.5", but at this point, I've forgotten how wide I cut the woods. The first thing I did was crosscut the Walnut, and when I did that, I realized that perhaps I was a bit on the short side and didn't want to take any wild risks, so I ripped everything extra wide.

I'll have to find a project that utilizes the scraps after I cut out the body shape.

18.5 is just what the length needs to be if you're building a Strat, so I guess it's my imagination.

Pfft. I'm makin' me a Bo Diddley guitar.

Yep, it needs to be 18", but I wasn't sure if he would need to shift the pieces around for proper alignment, or trim the ends or such.

Those look nice, in a guitar-pickup-sort-of-way. I've not heard of Reed James Pickups before. New company?

No, he's been around for a few years. He does a lot of wooden covers, and some pickups with wooden bobbins. Vol. Knob has a few guitars with RJE pickups.

I tend to disagree with a lot of his philosophy on pickups as they relate to physics, but he makes a good pickup. I guess you could say he's into the art more than the science.

I have a set of his PJ pickups on my black Jazz bass, btw. The pickups with the Padouk wood covers in my avatar.

Yay! Pre-shipping photos from the guy that prepared the blank for me. He's shipping it Monday.  :icon_biggrin:

Also, Jesus, this thread is getting long! I'll start a new one when I actually get to work on this body.

Yay! The blank came today. Now I get to play the waiting game and stare at this thing for a week while it acclimates to my garage before I can do anything. :blob7:

It never hurts to post more pics. :icon_biggrin:

I used the spindle sander on a piece of the edge to see how it's going to look.
