Another idea

Warmoth needs to fight this Gibson thing more.  If they are FMIC licensed, they could have a single cutaway body and say it's Jet™ shaped, and do a double cutaway like the Malcolm Young model.  I know they're a little company, but Gibson really has no leg to stand on.

Bingo.  Gibson can crush Warmoth by bringing a completely frivolous suit and just insisting on litigating it.  Unalloyed bull$hit, but there it is.

Leaving aside the Gibson thing (really, it's done), this is a good idea.  Fender owns Gretsch and a few other companies, I'm sure they could work out some kind of deal to have bodies that are similarly shaped (they can't be identical since they aren't bolt ons) and maybe some similar headstocks as well.  That's way more realistic than trying to fight Gibson in court.

Edit: I forgot they also owned Guild, which makes the Polara (aka Short Horn neuveau  :icon_jokercolor:).  That combined with the Gretsch Jets and double cuts could be a nice addition to the stable, and in a way that would be totally free of litigation threat.

Related: this is a really sexy machine.

That's what I mean by fighting it.  They could use the Guild and Gretsch shapes.  They don't just have to stop altogether. They said something about new shapes.  It's been awhile and nothing. I think they could get away with doing this and Gibson couldn't touch them.  I'd like a Jet or Bluesbird body, wink, wink.

Actually, looking into it a little more, it seems Gretsch is a little more independent of a company (guitars is separate, but distribution is done by FMIC), while Guild is a wholly owned subsidiary.  Similar to GM owning Saturn (mostly their own separate designs) and Pontiac (mostly just rebadged Chevys, mostly the same chasis'). Though the metaphor breaks down when considering that Saturn got turned into another re-brand of Chevrolet after 2003, and then went away.

Anyway, it would be much easier for Warmoth to get access/authorization to use Guild designs/IP, since they could just ask Fender directly.

So yeah, the Bluesbird, Polara, and lots of others: thems some pow'aful good options.

It's been suggested before.,nightbird is a chamber carved top.SC,.and the one i played was one of the sweetest guitars i've ever played
