A slight change of plans....

Did you hear that bang? That was me pulling the trigger on the body for my Tele build. I titled this thread a "A slight change of plans....", but that's not completely accurate. To be more accurate, it should be called: "A Return to the Original Plan". You see, I just ordered this.......

When I first envisioned this build, my full intent was to go with a satin finished body, but the one I was looking at in the Showcase sold before I could get to it. I looked at ordering it as a custom build, but it came to over $500, which is a lot more than I was looking to spend. So I contented myself with the prospect of a gloss finish.

Today, I paid my tax bill, and still had some cash left over. I went to the Warmoth site to see what I could see, and there it was: A Black, Satin finished, Telecaster body, with Comfort Contours. Not two or three, but only one. My heart leaped, my lip quivered, and my fingers flew. This one didn't get away!

I love it when a plan comes back together  :icon_biggrin:  Congratulations on your impeccable timing and your decisiveness, I've made the mistake of "thinking about it" with showcase stuff in the past and it usually ends with somebody else snagging it first...

What type of neck are you planning for it?
The neck......

Ebony on Maple, SS6230 frets, modern construction, Standard Thin profile, and will get a black headstock and a satin lacquer finish.

Exactly what happened to the first body i was looking at. Went back to the Showcase one too many times, and it was gone!

I imagine that build will be a mean awesome machine with a black headstock. :headbang1:

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it. If it was mine, I'd put a lot of shiny chrome on it. This will be a fun build to follow.

Warmoth's satin finish is outstanding. If this is your first satin from them, you won't be disappointed, congrats!

Yep, first Warmoth satin body. I refinished a Hagstrom H2 in Dodge Viper Purple under a satin top coat, and besides being my favorite color, the satin finish covered up a load of my mistakes! Really looking forward to seeing how it looks on a Warmoth.

This is astoundingly beautiful! I like the color the way you did it way better than on the Viper.

Have any NMB builds gone full monte with an ebony neck (and fingerboard, just in case you glossed over and thought neck meant fingerboard)

Glad you guys like my H2. It started out as a standard '64 H2, white with 2 single coils. This could be a picture of it as it started out....

I bought it used around '71 or so. Somewhere along the line I decided I wanted Humbuckers. Unfortunately, they wouldn't fit in the body, so I rerouted, designed and fabed a new pickguard, changed most of the hardware, and did a complete refinish. This took about 30 years to complete! Those are '83 DeMarzio, DP103 PAFs. Only original hardware is the Trem, Bridge, and String Tree Bar. All the old parts, (pickups, pickguard, tuners, et.al.), went to a vintage Hagstrom dealer in Stockholm. He was happy to get them, but I think it made him a little ill to see what I did, even though I tried to at least keep the feel of a vintage H2. As they say, you can't please everybody, so.....

And getting back to the Tele, I redid the mock up with a satin finish and the reduced engraving on the bridge:

The neck is the actual neck I bought, but it's really a lot darker than the showcase photo I used for the composit.

Oh man that's a lovely looking guitar. That engraving looks really good with the satin black.

I hadn't thought about it, but I have a Jazzmaster that would almost qualify as NMB were it not that the neck meat is birdseye (headstock is painted black). I do have an Ebony/Ebony neck I could put on it, but at the moment that's slated to join up with a camphor burl carved top soloist body. When I get all my babies back together in the same place, I'll have to look at that. Jazzmaster's already heavy as sin, adding an all Ebony neck to it can't hurt.

That Tele is going to be outstanding. The engraving wouldn't work with many but on this one it's the hot ticket.

I like your H2 pickguard better than the original.

The Tele is shaping up very nicely. Love the satin black.

Great job on the Hagstrom too. I have a 70s HIIN that I really must get put back together.

OK, I can usually figure out what people are talking about, but I'm missing something here. NMB? Neck-Middle-Bridge? Natural-Masked-Binding? No-More-Bananas?  :icon_jokercolor:
