Hot damn, that's a record necro-threading ;) In the end I built my 5 string Z bass with a swamp ash body and it's a nice balanced instrument that doesn't strain me standing up down at the body in my opinion. and my Mahogany Epi T-Bird got sold due to not using, partially cause of the weight...

I can't say I've tried a 35" 5 string, but my Z 5 Bass with 34" scale (I'm assuming it is if the g5 is also) the b string certainly doesn't feel sloppy or anything personally :)

Body looks amazing so far, Love the Z bass body shape. I always contemplated doing a stingray Z, Hope you can put up sound clips/video when it's finally done, see how it compares to a MM.

Nope far as I know all(or most at least) have the side dots moved to the position of where their fret would be, 1st side dot to where the 1st fret would be on a  fretted etc. most still do the 1?,3,5,7,9,12,15,17  etc however, so still not the whole lot of frets are marked out, so still alot to...
