Post what you're listening to!

The Hall of Fame induction description of Lifeson as, "sometimes melodic, sometimes chaotic" is very accurate.  Mucho appreciation for what they do, but other than the hits, I fall into the just not getting it crowd.  I like how they can turn to a different time signature on a dime and then right back.  It's most evident when one sees a mediocre band cover them that never learned to count.  The criticism of Lee's voice is very founded.  The biggest lesson I take from them is how to act like human beings, and the fact they're still doing it and still can.  They've still got new songs and albums in them and don't appear to be burnt out.

50 hours of Moving Shadow records tunes (Drum & Bass label).  458 tracks on random play.

New Order's "Best of" album. I generally hate compilations, or best hits albums, and the like... But this one hits a good spot.

Still working on my Moving Shadow collection.
Last track was EZ-Rollers - Tough at the Top (Timecode Remix)

To go with my newly found interest in Telecasters, I've been trying to learn some of the stuff off Brad Paisley's "Play - The Guitar Album" like this one!  :guitarplayer2:
Remember, "trying" is the operative word. LOL

I just finished listening to these albums:
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Saucerful of Secrets
More soundtrack
Ummagumma
Atom Heart Mother
Meddle
Obscured by Clouds
Dark Side of the Moon

I'm thinking about what to try next.  probably Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, and The Division Bell (but not The Final Cut, because that one was terrible).

I make no secret that if I had to Desert Island it, some sort of steel guitar or slide instrument would win. Gary Carter is probably only second to Paul Franklin as far as Nashville's premier pedal steel guys, he's all over the place on CMT and Marty Stuart's show, Brooks & Dunn etc. When these guys make CD's they tend to go for maximum blast and try to pretend they're really jazz musicians - Carter's latest is the least flashy & most careful "sideman" CD I've heard in a long while. He takes his music seriously.

3:35 - if that tone don't go right through you, you're a cinder block.

OH, SO THAT'S WHY IT'S CALLED A "JAZZMASTER"....

I am not alone in noticing that the Scandinavians play better jazz and the Canadians play better country than what's hyped in America.

OK, now for your regular dose of randomness, I have been listening a lot recently to:

Black Sabbath's album "13".
Bonnie McKee's new song "American Girl".
Still Corners' album "Strange Pleasures".
Katy Perry, as always.
Joni Mitchell's "Hejira".
Some stuff by a band called Polica.
Muse's album "The 2nd Law".

:) my favourite band of all time. I'm not keen on TFC, or any of the Waters solo stuff, either.

Gilmour's 2006 solo album (god, 7 years ago, how did that happen) is great if you like guitar tone and solos, not so great if you like some fire in your music.

Adult MUSIC, that is

I thought this was an interesting insight into the collection of people who blew John McLaughlin's mind as a kid. And when his brain reconfigured out popped a whole truckload of music that had never, ever been played before – help to invent three whole GENRES of music before you're 40 years old? He was playing the same clubs and the same R&B that the Beatles and Stones drew on, but he went East when they went West, so to speak.

So after he finished inventing fusion with Miles Davis, Tony Williams and his own Mahavishnu Orchestra, he freaked his record label by going acoustic all the way, inadvertently inventing one of the earliest “world music” groups, Shakti.

I saw this band, and they could BLOW people up outta their seats. And he reboots it over the years - this is the 3rd or 4th version ---->--->

not the greatest sound, but yumpin' yiminy, superglue yer hat on... at 12:25 in he starts up with his "new" toy, the whammy - he and Jeff Beck have a mutual admiration society besides being great friends for fifty years now, I guess the whammy bar started... mocking him? Li'l pecker... I actually think this 1999-2000 band lineup elicited the best solos of his life. At least partly because that little kid with the little mandolin (Srinivas) could wipe the floor with McLaughlin if he doesn't bring his AAAAA game. And starting at 16:43 Srinivas does... the thing he does, I sure can't track it. Unfathomable, I think it's called.

Can't forget these guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_5YZbmLI4c

Though there are much better sounding concerts on sugarmegs.org, try:

They knew they were playing for all the little grommets at the Berklee School of Music, yeah, -  right kid, you're fast. And here's the primo '99 “Remember Shakti” at Berklee:

That first guitar solo draws on more melody-construction ideas than I've ever heard from anybody, including Mr. Coltrane, Sonny Rollins.... then the little kid rolls out the mop bucket.

Fitz And The Tantrums - Picking up the Pieces.

My friend thinks I look like the lead singer, but without the cool hair.

And for some strange reason, Bruno Mars, but don't tell anybody, I do have an image to uphold.  :toothy11:

30 seconds to mars - love lust faith + dreams
Slash - Apocalyptic love
Alice in chains - The devil put dinosaurs here

Jimmy Buffet
Believe it or not, the new band is all Parrotheads, so I've been boning up on the Chief Parrothead himself. Fun stuff, even if it's not too challenging, and dammit(!) I can't get Cheeseburger in Paradise out of my head...
:icon_jokercolor:

Having decided to improve playing with some songs I can easier manage instead of frustration at harder songs for the moment.

Raconteurs - Steady as she goes.
Nickelback - How you Remind me.
Police - Message in a bottle (Just the speed on some parts needs attention)

Yes I'm braced for sh*t to be thrown on the second song listed  :evil4:
