White '54 Precision

Tru-oil, fairly easy to do. You can have it satin or glossy depending on how much you use. I have also used the Gun stock wax, after the tru oil, to buff it out a little.

Does that mean that what I thought was not finished, is finished?  And I just couldn't tell?

Edit - yep.

And that right there is quite possibly the single greatest endorsement of Warmoth's clear satin finish.  "Can't even tell it's finished!"

Ain't that the truth, though?  I'm positive now I've got a finish on this neck.  They did the finish after it had frets installed, and finished over the frets.  I just took a little scraper and scraped at a fret.  It removed a bit of finish on the fret.  Nothing that's not going to happen in the first few minutes of playing.

Installing the tuning machines.  Cardboard spacers.  And then traced out the pins with a pencil.  A little nerve wracking, but worked perfectly.  The only authentic Fender parts on this bass, apart from the pickguard screws.

Neck inserts.  And the orange dot.  Stainless steel (Cagey, I know, I know...) inserts.  Not as clean of a job as Cagey does, but vertical at least, and I did it myself.

Circuitry.  A couple things, I cleaned it up a bit (that wire sticking out for the jack) and had forgotten to ground the third lug for the volume pot, here.  Also had to move the pot to pot ground, because it didn't fit into the cavity with it on the side.  I thought about that after I had already done that side ground.  Forgot to take another pic after it was fitted.

I like using green for ground wires, not black.

Thanks, Cagey.  I'm a little annoyed that I singed the insulation on a couple of the wires, but all's good, insulation intact.  I weight replacing the wires, and decide it was more messy to do that than to just live with it.

Yeah, it's not like there's any high tension running around in there looking for an escape.

I like that bridge a lot. What a fine piece of hardware. Nice ground, too. On my next neck, I'll have to do the threaded inserts, too. Coming along nicely.

Thank you.  I like that bridge too.  For intonation it's the best one I've used, which include Babicz full contact, Gotoh 201, standard Fender, and KickAss.  I've stuck with the standard Fender 5 hole mounting pattern.  The Omega bridge is actually the BadAss in a new incarnation, but BadAss is just badass.  One note about them, the hole in the E string isn't large enough.  I have to bore it out a bit to get the string insert fully.

Threaded inserts are actually pretty easy to do.  Easier with a drill press, but without one you just need to stay vertical when drilling.

Looking mighty fine! :icon_thumright:

Never say never. The Ghost In The Machine has to live somewhere. Might as well be in the space for the controls  :o

The haunted bass.  Nice, I like it.

Edit - I've got a cool neck plate idea too:

I like the peace sign, too. Besides, I think even with a laser-etched plate there would be too much detail in that shot for it to be effective.

Yeah, it was more of a concept than actually choosing artwork.  It's just interesting where the forum can take you sometimes.  I liked the tangent.  I'll probably use it in the future too.
