I'm looking for the pin-mount version of Schaller's M6 non-locking tuners. No one sells them, and I don't know how to go about special ordering them, either. :dontknow:
Does anyone know where I can find them? I'm going to give this a day or two, then I'm just going to order the regular screw-mount version. :sad1:

I can't find them anywhere, either. They're listed on the Schaller site so I don't think they've been discontinued, but then Schaller lists a lot of things you can't actually buy anywhere.

I would have thought them to be wildly popular. Why use unsightly wood screws when a hidden pin keeps such a clean aesthetic? :dontknow:

what's a pin-mount? is it those little feet deelies Fender uses to mount tuners on American models?

I agree. My guess would be that too many people found locating the spot to drill the index hole too challenging.  Look how many threads show up on all the music boards now asking about that for the Sperzel pins.

Some tuners use a locator pin on the tuner body and an index hole in the guitar's headstock to keep the tuner from turning under tension, rather than a little screw through a flange. Sperzels are famous for it, but others do it now, too. Gotoh and Schaller, to name two. I'm having trouble finding a clear picture of it, but if you look at this one...

...you can see the blue tuner in the lower left corner has a little pin sticking up from its mounting face? Also, the gold one in the upper left shows it a little bit.

Thing is, you need to use a marking template or drill guide to get the hole for that pin in the right place, and that puts a lot of people off. But, it's a very effective way of keeping the tuner from turning, and there's no unsightly flange/screw stuff on the back so it's a very clean-looking installation.

Edit: Also, there's no screw to break off in the hole because it's drilled too small/shallow or the screw isn't lubricated. That all by itself should be a great selling point.

I've had a set of Schaller locking tuners sitting in a box in storage for the last 5 years or more. In fact, until I checked just now, I was certain that I'd given them away or sold them already. I bought two sets back way back when, not realizing that they had those little feet. I did a real hack job installing a set on one guitar, so that's why the other set never got used.

i had the brushed chrome like the ones you pictured on my ibanez. the set i have here are standard glossy chrome. You're not looking for locking tuners though right?

I'm looking for a 6-left inline set of non-locking M6 pin tuners in black.

Here is a good pic.

Looks like it might have to be an Allparts or GC special order thing.  8-12 wk wait.  I would go in to Guitar Center and see if its in their system and if anyone has ordered them or if a store might have a set.

Well, I gave up and bought some standard M6 minis.
I still want to know where to find these tuners for future projects, though.

Dang. I just saw some of the "Fender" spec'd Schallers on Ebay here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-Fender-Logo-Stratocaster-USA-Strat-TUNERS-TUNING-PEGS-L-K-/130581799125?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item1e674820d5

I suspect that a search for "Fender" plus "Schaller" or "Fender" plus "sealed" may get the best results. Though, I would bet the bank that
Fender tuners probably aren't Schallers by now; through the 90's they were. And I'm not sure about the ones on Ebay.... :-\

The screw-mount tuners don't look too bad.

One of them is defective, however.
It seems to have something obstructing the gear every few turns.

Hi line6man,

why don't you try and contact the CEO of Schaller directly, like ORCRiST did, when he wanted the Ruthenium Schaller trem.
Remember ORCRiST wasn't able to get any of the parts he wanted within reasonable time from any Guitar store in the USA.
So he contacted Schaller CEO and the guy was so kind to pack the needed stuffs up and mail it to him.

Just a thought for you
Bye  JULIA
