What is your favorite LIVE musical video?

New Orleans is worth it for the food alone.

As for Deserts... I guess 30 million Californians are all just silly gooses.

The state isn't all desert. And it's geese, not "gooses". Also, as of the middle of 2009, there are just shy of 37 million people in California. But, your guess is right. 30 million of them are silly geese <grin>

As an aside, that's more than the entire population of Canada.

The state is the worst off in the union, and is on the verge of financial ruin. They have the highest taxes, the highest unemployment rate, the highest cost of living, the greatest number of illegal aliens, on and on. Businesses are leaving there at an alarming and increasing rate. I suspect they'll be declaring bankruptcy and asking for a bailout a la Greece within the next year or so, in order to take advantage of having a socialist regime in the White House who's willing to rob the productive to pay the indigent.

To get back on topic, I don't really have a favorite live music video. I do get a kick out of seeing some of the heros of my youth back when they were just teenaged hairballs, though. For example, this video of Deep Purple playing "Highway Star" always tickles me.

A good series of vids I like watching occassionally is the Gorillaz Live At Manchester Opera House.....one of the few rare performances of the original recording ensemble (inc. Shaun Ryder  :tard: ) and is a performance of the Demon Days album. Damian Albarn is a genius to get this recording out and then be able to perform it live. The funny thing is there are a number of younger people in the audience because of the Gorillaz animation vids, and there's one scene where a little kid (probably 5 or 6 or so) is up on the seat doing his best "yo mumma " dance move! You get the vibe that it was hell of a performance from one of Manchester's favourite sons.

It would be a toss up between
Queensryche-Operation LiveCrime (recorded during the Building Empires tour 91-93)
or
Heaven & Hell at Radio City Music Hall.

I've always kind of liked for no other reason that Geddy is pulling off some of the synth and singing and playing bass.  I think there's another unseen synth player because I can hear it while Geddy is playing bass.  Sounds almost to good to be a live version.

Kind of like this for the same reason.  The Edge is switching effortlessly between the keys and the guitar, sometimes doing both simultaneously....Bono is still a bloody wanker though.

Rush is not above employing sequencers to make it possible for the whole song to be played by three humans. Plus, Geddy also uses Taurus pedals or whatever their modern equivalent is.  So he's often triggering sequencers, playing footpedals, playing keyboards, and fretting (and sometimes plucking) the bass - simultaneously.  Makes me feel like an underachiever.

I just found another video of Steve Morse, Dave LaRue and Van Romaine and a couple of norwegian musicians at Hell Blues Festival in my town.
Diggin' it!

Got to see these guys live a while back.  got a spot in the front row with the bass player's six string shreddin mere inches away from my eyeballs. It was great! :icon_biggrin: He threw one of his picks away and my brother picked it up after the show(found it lodged between the pa and the stage). Turned out he uses medium thumbpicks. After that I started using them, too, but went with 1.0s. I like 'em thick.

Pretty cool I guess. I never thought a metal song would leave me asking "where are the power chords?" Sweep picking is so lame. It hardly ever applicable in anything decent besides the "I want to show my technical prowess" garbage. It's a nice tool and can add some texture but not for the whole song IMHO.

Dude, what's the point in calling other people favorite music garbage or lame? It's not like you saying that will change my mind and it's not like I can change your taste in music either. This thread isn't just so people can turn their nose up at other people's choice in music. If you don't like it, then just don't listen to it IMHO.

You're right - this thread isn't just so people can turn their nose up at other people's choice in music. But, it is asking for an opinion. Some of those opinions won't be shared by the poster, and may not be flattering. Others will trend more positive. Point is, this is a discussion board, so SURPRISE! You're going to get some discussion.

Try not to take it personally. There is no accounting for taste. One person's Aerosmith is another person's Partridge Family. Besides, how else are you going to learn what people like or dislike, what techniques are useful or not, or what sorts of instruments/gear work or fail at their intended task? If you don't care, then why bitch? And if it's going to bother you that your opinion isn't sacrosanct, then don't put up your choices to be used for target practice.

What I'm saying is that I don't listen to pop or classic rock so, me saying this Imagine song sucks does nothing. Me saying Deep Purple is boring does nothing. It's not discussion, it's not constructive, it's not even destructive. It's just a matter of puffing one's chest and feeling superior. "My opinion is better than yours" how is that "discussion"?

Do I hate Deep Purple? No. They're good, but in a genre of music I don't listen to. I don't hate this Jordis chick either. She's good, but again definitely not something I listen to. So what right do I have in judging her or Deep Purple? What right do I have to say Deep Purple and Jordis "belong on f*ing Mars"(from Heavy Metal Parking Lot)? None.

"Besides, how else are you going to learn what ... techniques are useful or not...?" I'm not going to come to a "What is your favorite live musical video" thread to learn technique. Nor did I come here to criticize other's favorite bands' technique. And if it was simply about technique, why did NOBODY say anything about Steve Vai? C'mon!

What's the point in calling ANYTHING garbage or lame? Certainly not just for discussion's sake.

You're taking this much too seriously. Nobody's puffing their chest and feeling superior, or saying their opinion is better than yours. They're just offering their opinion, the same way you did by posting a music video in a thread asking for your favorites. How is it you can have an opinion, but it isn't allowed for others to have one? You've essentially puffed your chest out and said "Look at me! This band is superior!" Is this your band? Do you play in it? Are you its mother? And even if any or all of that is true, does that make them or their music superior? I'm afraid not, Spanky.

You like them, that's fine. Now we know. Some others will or won't and may or may not say why, and we'll know that, too. In the grand scheme of things, it matters not a whit.

Just for the record, I don't enjoy that kind of music, so I'm not sure those guys are any good at it. My guess is they're not, if we're judging by musical talent/composition/listenability/etc. Close as I can tell, there's a demon growling something unintelligible in the background, a guitar player with a super-compressed tone playing some kind of fabricated scales at the speed of light, and a drummer having wild monkey sex on a set of acoustic drums. I'm sure they're having a blast, and there are those who enjoy that sort of thing so much they'd even pay to see/hear it. That's fine. Fun's where you find it. Personally, I couldn't care less if you paid me.

Let me get this straight. You're saying... you're jealous?
