Well, its officially on order, a 2 piece carved top VIP wenge/wenge body and a 25 1/2 scale wenge/macassar ebony warmoth neck.

When it gets here, the fun begins.  I'l be installing the eletronics from my line6 variax along side 2 p-rails which will be switchable at the 1/4" output jack.  I'm doing a considerable amount of cavity routing to make way for all of the electronics, so I'm hoping this extra removal of wood will compensate for the heavier wenge body.

The lovely part is that the whole guitar will be 100% raw, so I'm looking forward to the experiencing the look and the feel.

I'll update you on my progress as it occurs.

wow, interesting plan! Love to see this one completed. what are you doing to do with the finish/lacquer?

That's gonna be some serious work, wenge is extremely hard... can't wait to see it when it's done!

kboman:  Not 100% sure on the control layout yet.  I would like to minimize the number of knobs and switches on the face, but with the 2 circuits and the p-rails, there are going to be at least 4 knobs and a couple of  5-ways.

Orpheo:  No finish, I'm leaving the whole thing raw other than painting the cavities with shielding paint.

Briny: I've already told my wood guy to make sure he had extra router bits ready!

Have you seen the Adrian Belew Parker Fly? He's got what you'll have, and a Sustainiac, piezo and midi. With three knobs and a 5-way. There is hope!

but the belew sig has a lot of limitations. especially the MIDI and sustainer can't be used to their full capacity.

Can't wait to see picks of how the wenge looks carved, might sway me from hollow strat to soloist.

Oh my... a wenge carved top soloist. With a Kahler, and BK Warpigs. It's a good thing I'm already sitting down!

I can't say I really like the shapes, but they seem well made

Yeah, I've seen that one before, but I'm interested to see if they don't use quarterswan for the top. Might end up looking something more like these:

Do any of you guys know if there is some technical/wiring info available ont he Belew Fly signature?

That's a long and complicated story. The original designer of the wiring made many of the parts himself, by hand - only to later commit suicide. So my guess would be "no" :p

Didn't the Parker folks reverse engineer it though?  I can anly assume that they would know the schematics of electronics they're putting in a production guitar, and Belew makes reference to the reverse engineering in his blog.

It is a two piece body, so it is a definite possibility that they will use a quartersawn top.  That soulmate picture makes me reconsider putting a finish on it  I guess it depends on what kind of grain pattern I get and whether I want to emphasize it or not.

They did (I think it took a year or two) but they're not likely to release anything to the masses on this by themselves - that's my impression at least. It will be a short run of guitars since Line6 don't want their electronics in lots of guitars by another maker. Not that it's likely to sell in the thousands of thousands with that price tag  :icon_biggrin:

We'll probably have to wait until someone buys one, starts tinkering with it and publishes pictures of the innards.

Well, some actual progress today so that this can be a legitmate "Just out of the box" post.  My neck has arrived and it's just out of the box!  I'm very pleased with it and starting to get VERY excited about this build.  I'll post pics later tonight when I get home from work.

Cheers,
J
