Well im pretty sure of what im going to build for my next build (though im still tempted to convert it to a LP, but resisting  :laughing7:)
Body:
  • Mahogany with raised centre strip
  • Darkstar pickups
  • Seperate Volumes and Master Tone
  • 4 String Hipshot Trem(not entirely sure but interested in having one)
  • Contoured Heel
  • Dragon Burst Front with Black Gloss Back
  • Strap Locks
  • Black Speed Knobs
Neck
  • Purpleheart Neck and Fretboard
  • Graphite Rods
  • 1 11/16" Nut
  • 6150 Frets
  • GraphTech Black TUSQ XL Nut
  • Black Block Inlays with Black Binding
  • GB7 Tuners

All Hardware will be chrome (interested in its look on purpleheart and with the green)

The one thing i cant decide on is a V Headstock, Warmoth Headstock, another Pre Cut headstock, or get a paddle headstock neck from warmoth and have it shaped into something resembling but not entirely the thunderbird headstock, how to make such a design im not sure without loosing what makes me like the thunderbird headstock style, unless getting someone here good with woodworking wouldnt get me sued for license infringement hehe

I would, however they are only on the 32 and 30 scale necks unfortunately.
Im considering the V more than the warmoth, but still not entirely sure whats best.

Mmmmm the headstock design is something to think hard about. You could get used to the V shape I suppose......but maybe, as the Warhead seems unavailable for full sized necks, you could get a standard Fender headstock and call it a Fenderbird, ala Entwhistle? :icon_scratch:

Yeah im thinking long and hard about it, at the moment as warmoth supply the paddle headstock specs im looking at designing something aswell,
On an interesting note i found set of i believe to be old chrome coloured gibson thunderbird pickups on ebay, which from the size were almost the same as the emg 35 routes i believe
Along with set of epiphone thunderbird pups which were just a bit smaller than the 35 also i believe or something.

If you don't get the Gibson pickups you could easily get a  set of EMG 35s & it would look in place? IF EMGs aren't your cup of tea for bass guitar, maybe check out that gawdawful website of Bartolini's and see if they have a similar pickup design - I think they do. Somewhere on that site I think they have the dimensions of their pickups.

a link to one of the thunderbird pickups on offer if you can shed some light on if these are old version genuine or not if anyone can.
Also ive got here a very rough draft i made of a thunderbird ish headstock i created, however i do not like the lines much on right side of the headstock, a bit too, well i dont know what but something
I know its S*** but best i could do with publisher to create the shape outline then paint to rub out the remains, and the black box around it is the angled paddle headstock size.

Added: Also i know the bottom of the drawing isnt the same as the actual headstock would be, but the dimensions are for before the cut bit leading onto the neck and fretboard, so it wouldnt be completely straight at the bottom
