Warmoth Name Plate

Right. I got to thinking about inlaying one on an Ebony neck I have here, and without either the negative version of what he's already done or the same as he's already done but with a border it'll get lost on the headstock because black would be transitioning into black. Actually, any dark headstock would have that problem. Need a boundary on the emblem.

Okay.  One thing I tried on my initial attempts was to get an aluminum plate and fill in the etched letters with black enamel.  Unfortunately I really messed it up.  My hand wasn't steady enough to make it cleanly.  And when I tried to clean it up I found the aluminum to be softer than the enamel.  Scratched the hell out of the piece.  I got to thinking if I had only just thinned the enamel, it might have worked.

What you're after is this then?

or this?

Yip, it could be done either way. On the one that the plate stays black and the lettering is machined, I could cut the border all the way out to the edge, so that there would be a break from wood to emblem. Like this one, the blue area would be headstock wood.

Or this would work too..

I like that a lot. Gonna have to get some. Any chance you couid take a picture of it next to something to give it some scale? Maybe one of the regular Warmoth emblems? Also, whaddaya think you're gonna have to have for them?
PM me and we can discuss.... :icon_thumright:

Something new today.  When I get home I'll mount one and take another pic.  (The top one was from the earlier stages, without the Warmoth "fangs.")

I think it would be kind of cool to take one of the oval shaped ones, sans the screw holes, and recess that into the face of the headstock, then clearcoat/seal that in there.

Ya, they were talking about that a couple pages back.  A bit out of my tool and skill set, but I agree.

I have a couple plates coming that I'm going to embed. They look like this...

I will.

I wanted the border because at least one of the necks I'm thinking of putting one on is Ebony, so it needed a visible edge.

I have 5 coming with my GRYPHON script.

DR6..feel free to post them when you are done.  If not I will post when I get them

I will, still working on them... :icon_thumright:

So, is that the back side of the black?  Or is it gold anodized?

And I would really recommend these or similar if you don't have any Gibson PG screws:

Solid brass...

All those look really good. My favorite is the oval with the border. :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

I agree. I wonder if the fact that I've historically been somewhat of a Ford guy has anything to do with that.... "Have you driven a Warmoth... lately?"

+1 for the rounded contours. As much as I like Warmoth I have NEVER used the turtle decal on a headstock. You have a good project going there.  :hello2:

I like this idea by the way! I may prefer "regular decal" for my own purposes tho :)
