I did some work with my plates after I received them from Doug.
The top plate in the photo is the original from Doug and the bottom is the mods since people were asking. For steel I painted black and lightly sanded back. I am going to hit it again with a higher grit paper to smooth out the lines in the metal. I was so jazzed on the result I snapped a photo real quick.
The Brass one was aged 8 hours using a hard boiled egg method. Brass and Bronze will react quickly if placed in a closed container with a mashed up hard boiled egg. (I used the same method to put a patina on a bronze Zenith watch). The longer you leave it in, the more patina you get.
