I stayed out of the earlier tuner conversation. These are the ones I'm talking about:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,_solid_peghead_tuners/Kluson_Waffleback_Guitar_Machines/Kluson_Waffleback_Guitar_Machines_with_Keystone_Knob.html

They are modern inside, but look cool on the outside (at least to me) and fit the build.

Yeah, those are much better. Tuning ratio is only 15:1 and there's no lock, but I suppose you could live with that.

I think white binding would be a little stark. Ivoroid should work well with the other bits and look better than cream.

Chambered is probably a good way to go. You lose the tummy cut with the hollow and the F-holes might be getting over the top.

Might as well work up the baritone. I'll get to it eventually if not now.

If I was to do another strat, I would mix a Seafoam Green with a Mary Kaye style.  I guess I'd have to have Tonar do that.  Perhaps enhance the grain a bit.  I can see Jeff Beck rockin' that...

One option does seem to be running away with it, but here are the baritone specs. Would put thick strings on it and tune it to whatever feels good.

Body:
Black Korina Jazzmaster
Rear rout
sxH pickups
Contour Heel
Satin finish
$470

Neck:
Wenge/Wenge
Black dots
SS6100 frets
Graphtech Black nut
$345

Warmoth parts:
Planet Waves Black Tuners $68
Black contour neck screws $3
Schaller 475 bridge $64
Black strat jack $7.50
Black dome knobs $10.05
Toggle switch $12
Straplocks $17.25
$181.80

Other Parts:
Dangerous neckplate $50?
EMG 81TWX $130
EMX SX $89
$269

Total: $1265.80

I noticed on the goldtop build you were going to put the EMG P-90s in it, aren't they not even P-90s? IIRC they are just humbuckers in a P-90 case.

Just making sure in case you wanted a P-90 sound.

I'm aware. Passive pickups are just too noisy for me. I think the P60A should be an interesing sound maybe a little like a P90. It would make more sense just to use two of them and ditch the P85.

I voted for the baritone, but the standard fender baritone is a jazzmaster - why not go for something different? Like a baritone les paul goldtop? that'd probably suffer terrible neck dive, but at least get the idea rolling.

I did some measurements and even a small trapeze doesn't fit on a VIP like it would on a LP or LPS. The LP has too much empty space behind the bridge for my taste which was why I thought it would look good anyway. Since the VIP fixes this, I don't have to worry about it.

Luckily, there is a nickel finish version of he Gotoh 510UB (I also found that 510 is a series of various bridges which was confusing) which will work nicely.

I'm looking more closely at neck options and what looks good on a VIP. Considering baritone, but it does limit the options.

Not sure I'm a fan of the recessed control routs available on the VIP. Anyone else prefer the more smooth look?

Given a choice, I'd take the recessed controls. I don't think I'd want them on anything else, but on that body, they seem to work well.

I've always thought the recessed controls on PRS's/VIPs were ugly. and i also hate the location of the toggle switch. I for one would just arrange the hardware in a strat style layout

+1 for no recesses . . . . have you thought of putting a pickguard on it (something like on an LP, put more shapely to match the awesomeness of a curvy VIP?)
