Tonarcaster/ Tele Special

Whenever I read about the TX BBQ pickups, it makes me want to launch my own NC BBQ pickups. Perhaps not as  beefy,  but a lot more grunt n squeal.
Nice project..

Max, you been hangin' around the Madoodah room too long... heheheh... starting to get bad influences!!!! Starting to take matters into your own hands I see.  Very good!

Nice job, keep at it.

Attention to detail and patience is what makes all the differance. Looks like she will be a Rockin' Axe.  :guitaristgif:

Crap. The ears on the humbucker route are too small. And also, a screw head snapped off when I was putting the tuners in. Let's see how this works out.

Do you have arouter available, or a Dremel? Assuming the rout will hide underneath a pickguard, have a go at enlarging the rout?

Tuner screw snapped off? Well, welcome to the club! I think all of us have wasted one of those delicate suckers at some stage or another - you know what you have to do Max.... :icon_thumright:

GOOD LUCK!  :occasion14:

BTW, does anyone have any tips for avoiding that Tuner Screw Snap off? Avoiding the problem is far far better than knwoing how to fix it!  :dontknow:

That's the plan, Pete! It will be under a pickup ring, so I will need to be careful.
there's one thing I've learned in my woodworking experiences:
if you're nervous, go old-school and leave the power tools behind. it may take more time, but using a file/rasp will keep you from removing too much too quickly with a dremel.

Rasp seems to be the way to go. I'm going to remove less than 1/8" total.

It's important to make sure the hole you drill for it is deep enough. I suspect sometimes fear of drill-through makes for shallow holes, and the screw simply isn't designed to make its way through hardwood unassisted. Hell, most nails won't make it through hardwood unassisted. Also, it's important to lubricate the screw with thread wax or paraffin or even a crayon if you don't have the others laying around. Don't use oil-based lubricants or soap.
