About as brutal as a jar of bees.

Or, a stadium full of vuvzuela horns   :laughing7:

Let 'em keep the vuvuzelas -  footbal fans without 'em stand a better chance of becoming football hooligans!

I don't know why, but swedish anime-fans and cosplayers seem to have a real thing for Pocky. Not just any Japanese candy, it has to be Pocky. Whenever they see it, they go crazy for it. I think it's mainly because it's from Japan, it's not like it tastes über awesome or anything. :/
It's not bad, but you can tell it's cheap chocolate meets cheap version of a Grissini. I'd rather have a real thin Grissini dipped in well-tempered Belgian chocolate but then, I'm a bit of a connaisseur, or at least I try.  :laughing7:

Actually, Pocky isn't cheap chocolate. It's made by one of the bigger chocolate/snack companies, Glico. The only reason you think it's cheap is because Japanese chocolate isn't as sweet as what you're used to. Someone earlier mentioned not having sweets for a while and then being sickened by it when you eat it again. I can vouch for that.

I used to drink at least 2 liters of Coke a day, easily. When I turned 30 I was diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia, low blood sugar. Now, you'd think that you would need sugar but it's just the opposite. Eating sweets and simple carbs etc... makes the body start putting out insulin at more than normal rate and it drives the blood sugar too low, so you gotta stay away from that kind of stuff. for about 6 years I stuck to a very strict hypoglycemic eating regimen. One day I was at the pool hall and one of my friends came in with a Coke from McDonald's. For some reason I wanted a Coke. Hadn't had one in over 6 years. Truth be told, in that 6 years the only thing I drank was water and the occasional glass of milk. Yes, I didn't have one single glass of beer for 6 years, actually beer went about 10 years. Anyway, I asked my friend if I could have a sip of his Coke. He handed it to me, I took a drink and it was so frickin' disgustingly sweet and syrupy that I thought I was going to gag. How in the hell did I ever drink that stuff like I did? I'm 42 now and I've added some of the sweets back into my life, in moderation. I've acquired a taste for Coke again but I only have it about once or twice a month, and only one glass. I still don't drink alcohol very often, probably once a year or so. Finding out about the hypo is probably the best thing that ever happened to me.

I've turned away from sugar-filled milk chocolate a long time ago. I only stick to 70%+ dark chocolate, mostly high-premium chocolate, and to me Pocky has quite a bland taste, even for a milk chocolate. Also, even though Glico is a big company it doesn't have to mean the chocolate is good. Imported to sweden, one pack costs about 25 kronors, that's equivalent of about $2.5, and 100 grams of premium chocolate is easily 40-50 kronors, and that's without importing it from Japan with the extra VAT cost and shipping.

So I stick with my saying, it's a cheap chocolate, but all candy-makers use cheap chocolate, so I'm not surprised  :laughing7:
I'd love to taste their dessert-pocky's though, I bet they have a finer chocolate on those.

Is it just me or does anybody else wanna just bite a REAL cacao bean already

I'm really, really annoyed that this was ever an issue at all.  I'm someone who LOVES Japanese culture.  I have traveled there many times since I was 16, and the mother of one of my good friends who I have played music with since childhood is from Okinawa.  I have seen the best and worst parts of Japanese culture, and it's one of two places I would considering moving to outside of Western Washington state.

I don't see how one guy making a flippant comment about generalizations about POPULAR CULTURE suddenly becomes OMG YOU HATE MY WIFE.  I would hope that you all could appreciate a degree of the truisms in his (admittedly ignorant) statements and let it go.  Since when did these boards become the flipping moral nice-guy police?

I'm glad you folks worked things out, honestly.  I hope this episode can end what seems to be a trend of getting bum-hurt over silly things that people say on the internet.  I have too much respect for Mully and everyone else involved to not say anything, and I hope you take what I've said into consideration and let it go, either way... and don't round up the Disney police and burn some stakes~

edit: Pocky OWNS.  I always have some at my house.

I read his "offensive" statement and I agree... "racist" dude is not racist.  Get an effin' sense of humor and stop taking everything (and yourselves) so seriously, people.

I blame the public school system for raising several generations of overly-sensitive, overly-offended namby-pambys.

Besides, everybody knows that if there's one race to make flippant comments about, it's those darn Canadians, eh?
