The Official "Unofficial Warmoth Drawing" Rules Thread.

Take your numbers.  Add 200, 400, 600, and 800 to them.  All of the resulting numbers belong to you.  So I have the number 23, therefore if the lotto number is 223, 423, 623, or 823, I win.  But if the number is 323, I don't win, because that would be a number belonging to whoever has 123.  See?

subtract 200 from the number that is selected until you get a number that is less than 200. if this was based on another number it wouldn't be as obvious but in this case 0=0 1=1 100=100 101=101
200=0 201=1 202=2

300=100 301=101 302=102

400=0 401=1

500=100 501=1

601=1

701=101

and so on.

Thanks you guys. Dan, numbers, dude, you put a crack in my skull. I honestly believe I have some type of learning disability when it comes to numbers. I see a bunch of numbers and my mind goes blank. Now, I'm fine with the 4 basic food groups of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. Step outside of those though and I'm screwed. That's alright though, I'm not ashamed of it. I'm an English teacher, I don't need to know math.  :icon_thumright:

Ok, let me see if I got this right..... my numbers are 15, 37,74,142,169 so......

I can win with  015, 215, 415, 615, or 815 for the 15

and

142 or 342

So, each of my double digit numbers have 5 chances and my triple digit number only has 2, or would that 342, 542, 742, 942?

HA!!! Thanks, man. I can see you sitting there going "Dammit! It's not that complicated.....screw it, I'll post all the numbers up for his dumb ass!" HAHAHA!!!

It's really not the numbers as much as how you get to the numbers that interests me. Even though I suck at math it piques my curiosity at times.

Thanks again for posting those.

all you do is divide the number drawn by the total number of tickets sold. the reminder is the answer. For it to be fair the number of tickets sold needs to divide evenly into 1000 that is why we originally had 125 which goes into 1000 8 times. 200 goes into 1000 5 times.so

215/200 is 1 remainder 15 so 15 is the answer
415/200 is 2 remainder 15 so 15 is the answer

pretty simple

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modular_arithmetic

In mathematics, modular arithmetic (sometimes called clock arithmetic) is a system of arithmetic for integers, where numbers "wrap around" after they reach a certain value—the modulus.

Mully, you are more than familiar with the process already. 2 hours past 11:00 AM is ... 1 PM that's a Modulus 12. Time in general uses Modulus...two months past November (11) is January (01), also a mod 12. Days in months can be seen as Mod 30, 31, or 28. So basically the numbers roll around a root number. In this case, the Mod is 200 all the numbers roll around 200. Music uses a Modulus in it's count...1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4. So understanding modulus is a Piece of Cake, but then again, I'm a computer programmer by trade.

Just testing my newfound modulus knowledge:

Today's evening lottery pick was 449.  So that means 49 would've won if we did the drawing today.

Yep, Mr. ErogenousJones I believe.  That's right, right?

So...can we say the drawing was today?  :laughing7:

Just keep subtracting 200 from the number that comes up until the result is 200 or less.

How about if I keep subtracting until the number that comes up is one of mine?

If you manage that you math sucks even more than you originally claimed...

Of course, if you're not good with math you just have to remember that once the numbers are drawn there's going to be about 50 posts by people who actually understand how it works pointing out exactly who won, so....  Just sit back and wait.
