Table cloth flake Jazzcaster

This sounds awesome and very useful!

Can you clarify what the five positions are for you? (Neck PAF, Neck and bridge in parallel, bridge, neck and bridge half out of phase, neck with darkening cap?)
You are correct, except the last position is described as “neck with 10% less low end” (passive bass cut) by Bill. It’s the same cap that provides the HOoP effect in position 4.

Fantastic! I love the low rider candy/lace over flake.

What is your spray setup?

Thanks! For the Flake I use a "Loose Cannon" spray gun from Roth metal flake. It has a 3mm tip and it can handle the Monster size flake (.025in). For my clear and color spraying I have an inexpensive gravity feed gun from the Depot. It has a 1.4mm tip and it seems to work fine. My latest addition is an air brush. I used that to do the fade around the top. I have a 20 gal compressor (110 v) and added a water trap/filter to the line and a pressure gage. My spray booth is an old portable ice chanty that now looks like a disco inside because the metal flake goes everywhere.

I have the urge to setup something similar! Do you spray 2K clear? I’ve only done it twice from a can but even with respirator, suit and open garage I felt nervous.

Wow ... interesting it's like an old west theme (I'm seeing an embossed saddle in floral) combined with a late 50's flake vibe. This took a lot of thought. I'm probably totally off base ... where'd did you get your inspiration? To me the jazzmaster / caster shape is like the jetsons, retro modern.
Thanks Rick! I did a jazz master bass with flake and candy overcoat a few years ago. While doing research on applying metal flake, I saw a lot of videos of these intricate pinstriped and patterned cars people were painting. A few of them really jumped out at me that were using the lace over the flake and spraying a transparent color over it. So I thought I would give it a try. I have always been a fan of the jazzmaster shape and totally agree with your retro modern description.

I haven't done any 2K clear yet. I have heard from people on this forum that it is the devil! I am on a quest to find an acceptable water based finish. The main reason is clean up. I can spray a few coats and then run the gun under some water and its done. No acetone or lacquer thinner. I still use a suite and respirator while spraying. I am using Createx colors water based urethane this time and they do recommend a 2K clear for automotive or outdoor use. I am starting the polishing process now and I don't seem to be getting the gloss I am looking for yet. Time will tell and I may end up overcoating it with a 2K.
