Something Wicked This Way Comes

Ok I finished the VIP I made with my grandfather in mind. And I'm hooked now. My wife really liked the guitar but she likes heavier types of music. So that was all I needed to get a green light on a new project.

So since the last one was classy and named after my grandmother, this one I want to have some wickedness but with elegant beauty like my wife. She is my aesthetic judge on this one. Every cosmetic aspect of this guitar will be ran by her. so we'll see...

Here's the neck so far. I got it in yesterday and I have been busy out in the shop.

Angled Paddle head
24 fret, 25 1/2 scale
SS 6105's
Wizard profile, 10-16 radius

Going for the Lawrence/Hetfield thing but in reverse

After I got it routed and cut out

Still needs a lot of sanding, But I'm happy with one days work on it.
Flamed maple veneer will be going the raised section and dyed to match the body.

Hope you guys like.

Very nice  :guitaristgif:

So the paddle headstocks are pretty huge even for guitar?

Been contemplating one for next project and see if guy that did my first warmoths electric would cut headstock out, believe he does woodworking for guitars aswell.

Because first it was first out of the box, then it was a work in progress! I wouldn't be surprised if we see it in "DIY finishing" and "Pickups" and  "Wiring & Electronics" and "Hardware"... and hopefully "Git of the Month", why not. :toothy12: :hello2: :blob7:

Cool! But why 2 topics?

I meant to just show the out of the box in that section. but the beveling idea came up.
I will only show progress in this topic.

That headstock is wicked KU!  :party07:

... and nice work getting your missus on board. Got any kids? The next one/s can be 'inspired' by them!!  :icon_thumright:

Thanx and great idea!!  :icon_biggrin:

Only my daughter plays, I did build her a pink tele a while back to get her started. So I think my wife won't let me play that card.

Little update in progress:

Put a flamed maple veneer on the raised section of the headstock

Dyed the veneer black but left a natural border
imag0171n.jpg

Naming this one for the wife, so threw her name on the headstock
imag0172j.jpg

Did some art on the fretboard
imag0174h.jpg

The wife really likes filigree, doing that in place of dots
imag0175v.jpg

Brought the design over from the headstock of my VIP

It still has a lot of residue from the tape so forgive that. I'll get it cleaned up.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I haven't done much more lately as I'm waiting on the body to arrive. I have created a mockup in photoshop however.

This is the approximate goal of  what I intend it to look like.

I want to expand the natural masked binding idea into the filigree design on the body, with the rest of the body dyed black or possibly a washed black.
