Second build.

Great decision, looks fantastic ! I'm still undecided on the ceramic coating with Rubio, are you using Sheen Plus also ?
Yes. That picture is with Sheen Plus. I still have Ceramic from my last build. The tiny bottles will probably last at least 4 builds. There is actually quite a bit of shine on it in the right light.

I tried out something crazy for the headstock. Not sure I can clean it up, but you gotta try something to learn something.

Total Boat over a fabric bandana.
Now that's a cool idea if you can clean up the edges. Maybe sand it down so the total boat just sits flush with the sides ?

Yeah, lots of time sanding. We will see. Unfortunately, I think the low E tuner hole is gonna decapitate Reveille's (the dog) head. Should have thought that through better, lol.

Hardware installed. Other than my crappy soldering, it went well. After Aaron’s video about them, I decided to try the Van Dyke-Harms monolith bridge.

My attempts at Aggifying the neck ended in failure, so I am left without a functional neck. Luckily, it was a screaming deal neck and I can continue doing experiments on it. But for now I have to wait for my new Warmoth neck to arrive to play it, unless I just take a neck off one of my other guitars.

That's a pretty snazzy axe you're building there. I just read through the thread from the beginning, and I'll tell you, the earlier photos had me a little concerned that you would not achieve a true Aggie maroon. But you made it happen. Nice work.

That bridge

Thanks! Angelus Burgundy on that Red Gum Burl really worked out for Aggie Maroon. I have a special Aggie strap being made by Linny Kenny. She does great work, although it can get pricey depending on your design.

I have the short version coming tomorrow.....................MONO FEVER!
now crap grade USPS shipping has bumped it till tomorrow, it has been sitting 20 miles away for 3 days. I am sure margins are tight, but a week and counting is SLOW for a spendy item IMO.

Cant you just sand the headstock to wood?

They are so overbuilt they probably need a forklift to move it, lol. The quality is amazing.

I also decided to stupidly drill out the fret markers to replace them with something maroon. Even with my laser equipped drill press it’s impossible to hit a circle dead center. Total disaster. But my kids both went to college at Cal Poly. The school motto is “learn by doing”. I’m learning. I decided it was better to start fresh and use that neck for experimentation.

I tape em off and paint them, then they get a couple coats wipe on poly. However, all my necks save one are maple, so I would do the poly anyways.

Raggamuffin is quite an experimenter too, he sometimes installs bridges wherever inspiration leads him regardless of scale length. (he says scale is something made up by big guitar companies to keep the common man down)
