Sarah Ryan inspired Fender XII and Jazz Bass

Man, this sounds so good!!!!

Seems like I'll have to copy you (and them re-copy her guitarist) with the 12 strings and lipstick pickups :p

Gentlepeople,

Some of tonight's activities.

This is a trick I've done so many times it's almost routine.  Almost.

Wait, I haven't seen that headstock shape before.  Warmoth does that?

Yea man.  It's new - it's a copy of the old fender XII headstock.

It's groovy in a dorky way  :headbang:

The first order of business is to turn these bits into instruments to make sure they work before we paint them up.

First, let's play with the neck!  The neck is finished in vintage tint satin, and the first thing that I did was polish up the face of the headstock:

Can't open the website, Trevor... don't know why, even searched on google...

That's strange - the link worked for me.  Maybe your IP has been banned  :laughing11:

Update:

both bodies have gotten two coats of Zinsser SealCoat.  Once the sealer dries, the plan is to build them up to see how they work.  Then disassemble and proceed with the build as usual.

After months of checking my order list I realized that I forgot to order something:  String Ferrules!

You better pick up a new body so you can get those ferrules shipped out.

Update:  The 12 string is together sans pickups.  Sounds pretty good acoustically.  Some notes:

0 - the wider fretboard is a HUGE improvement over my 360/12.  I can actually play the damn thing!
1 - disappointed with the locking aspects of the sperzel tuners.  several of the small strings don't lock - they slip like crazy.  I'll just have to string them the "regular" way I suppose.
2 - This is the first time this has happened, but I can't get the strings to line up over the fretboard.  Time to sand the neck pocket...
3 - 12 strings have a lot of tension!  It's going to take me awhile to get it set up.
4 - speaking of setup, the bridge saddles are on the floor and the strings are too high.  Looks like a shim is in my future....

executive summary:  Looks like it's gonna be a good one, but I'll have to earn it.

forgot to say that the balance is good and the jazzmaster body feels good as well.

Update.  Here it is.  I'm having a hard time putting it down actually - it does sound great.  Chimey, clear, and with good sustain.

Next - take the sucker apart.
