I tweaked the nut and relief some more and got the action down very low.  Using my fret rocker I determined that there is only one high fret on the guitar:  Fret21.  I decided not to 'fret' it.

Then I set the intonation using my peterson iphone app, and got that in the ball park.

Now it's playing and sounding very very good indeed.

What really amazes me is that this has all the settings of a great love story, you know, guy gets a guitar painted by a nice bassthumpin' woman based on a design he's seen in her bedroom, she decides to paint a heart on it, etc, and no one has seen fit to comment on that.  :icon_biggrin:

Yep - it's getting painted.  It's already got two coats of black on it.  More black to come...
