Sarah Ryan inspired Fender XII and Jazz Bass

Mark Spencer: Good job quoting!

its so wonderful how nobody cares how ONE person thinks about this project.

back to the original topic!  :toothy10:

its pretty lame for an outsider to come here just to start a flame war because one forum member couldn't purchase a product they wanted from the people that inspired the concept and sought outside opinions and advice on how to "do it yourself", which is what Warmoth is all about in the first place....

Back to the topic at hand, Good luck Mayfly and if you need any more advice or ideas there are plenty of people out there who have real helpful experience and advice.

What this Sarah Ryan person does is called tole painting. My mom does it. It's the kind of stuff you'll see by the truckload at county fairs. They give evening tole painting classes in the evening at the community centre here in my neighbourhood. It's not that original. That said, Ms. Ryan's work is lovely, and I think the project it inspired will turn out lovely as well. But to the dude who came in here guns blazing: stickin' some purty flowers on a geetar don't make you Picasso.

So, how 'bout that guitar, eh? Can't wait to see it come together.

I can't wait to see these done, personally. Mr. Spencer, I'm sorry to say that coming in like that is completely the wrong way to get support for the artists named. They do seem talented, which is why Mayfly had them as his first choice for the project. So, naturally, he did what all of us here do... he built it himself. He never claimed it was an original idea, and he definitely gave credit. We don't sit here complaining that Fender won't make a telecaster to our specs at all. We just get the job done. Mayfly is a fan of Sarah Ryan's work, and I am too now, as well as other members of this forum. He gave them credit, and by extension, free advertising.

I have to go trim my mullet, but I'll leave you with this lovely tidbit from one of your top board members, Mark Smith. Thanks for the suggestion, Mark, you sound like a swell guy.

I didn't read this.  You need a hobby that doesn't involve being such a douche to people.  By the way, had a great laugh browsing the pics in the OPEN FOLDER on dude's site.  Oh, and this was epic:

Apriori/Mark: Mark Spencer        12:37:18 pm       Reporting a topic to a moderator.
Apriori/Mark: HAHAHAHA
Apriori/Mark: Read: I lose, I'm telling my mom

Don't take things so seriously that you have no business being critical of.  Like I said, that board is a community of people who DO things, not whine.  I'm glad you enjoy their creations, but you can eat a big fat cock if you're going to start talking down to other people expressing themselves, especially as respectfully as Mayfly did.

too bad...

Mayfly, I apologize for muddying up a thread of what will surely be another epic project.

I would like to make one last comment (as it was pointed out to me by someone I forwarded that cretin's email to, since I didn't read it).  On top of being wrong on every point, posting private information (when myself and others withheld posting his... and some of it's funny), he's also a liar, though it doesn't seem to matter any longer since his profile is deleted.  Here's his last line from the lengthy tear-fest he sent me:

As promised I won’t post to your board anymore, and you can feel some satisfaction knowing that you were able to get rid of me.

Annnnnd then he shows up and posts my response to his email (which bothers me not at all other than that I wouldn't disrespect the forum by using language like that in public).  I guess if you're unoriginal, full of crap, and generally lame, you're like the energizer bunny of suck, haha.  Toodles!

Well I'm glad he's gone, what a miserable human being. None of that irrational nonsense was even remotely justified.

It's a great project Mayfly.

This is going to be a great project, even if the guitarist for Son Volt (!?! Seriously!?) is a nasty troll.

love the project even if the art work is stolen :laughing7:
JK, folk art is not too original anyway, i can find a number of artist in any state across the country that the layperson can't tell the difference. not that i mean to discredit any art or artist.

fact is you credit the inspiring artist and dont try to pass it off as anything but the work of your friend and yourself nor are you trying to sell it so it doesn't infringe on the original artist in any way. it's not as if you took a digital scan of an entire guitar and reproduced it detail for detail, and if you did it would only show your admiration for there work, it doesn't become theft or wrong untill it is fraudulent in some way and it hasn't been presented in a fraudulent manor.

sorry i wouldn't bring it up but that guy even got on my nerves, mayfly i'm glad you have remained level headed in this whole thing. and congrats on a beautiful project.
