Well looks as though after 25yrs of service with the co. I work for has come to an end. On February 13th I start my new job. The place I'm currently employed at has decided to move operations here to another facility, and closing the doors on this plant after 32 yrs. of operation. But luckily for me I was able to procure another job as a tool maker for an aircraft repair facility just down the road from my house. So while I am saddened by the departure, mostly because of the people I will miss. I'm also excited and nervous about starting over. 25 yrs is a long time to spend at one place, and I feel like I'm leaving my family. But I guess its time to move on....

A new chapter in my life begins... :rock-on:

Will that put an end to the neckplate business?
Oh no, I have a cnc machine at home now, have had it for almost a year now... Still doing neck plates and and other stuff... :icon_biggrin:

Wow Doug!!!  Yes, 25 years is a long time to be with one organization.  I was with a company in Kansas City for 14 years before I moved to Phoenix.  Your coworkers really do become your second family and often the very reason someone stays at a job so long.  You are really lucky to be able to move right into another job considering today's economy.  I have a several family members that work/worked in the aircraft industry and there are always jobs in that field somewhere.

Best of luck in your new job and with your new family.

wow
Doug, congrats for the  25 years, tht is a great record.
Bummer it is ending.
sounds like a kewl new job, hop you like it,
Good luck.
Jim

Having more time with the people you love it's good news.

Good luck in your new job Doug  :icon_thumright:

Wow. 25 years. Gotta feel like you own the place now, you're so familiar with it and everybody involved.

I'd expect to go through some grieving, if I were you. There are five stages:

Denial — "This can't be happening, not to me."
Anger — "Why me? It's not fair!"; "How can this happen to me?"; '"Who is to blame?"
Bargaining — "I'll do anything for a few more years."
Depression — "I'm so sad, why bother with anything?"
Acceptance — "It's going to be okay.";

(from the Wiki)

So... stock up on beer. Hire some hookers. Ride your bike. Build a new guitar. Life is good, and it goes on.

Ya, it sucks, mostly because I'll miss my bro's. And you're right Cagey, been through all those emotions. Except the "who's to blame", that one is a no brainer. But that's another subject matter.

sad to hear that Doug!
Good luck with the new job though! is this in Greenv'l too, or will you have to commute now?

I salute you for 25 years of service to one company.  That shows a lot of dedication and hard work. Its only natural you'd be a little nervous starting fresh somewhere else.

John Lennon said something like "there are no problems, only solutions."  So instead of worrying about the new job, just look at it as an opportunity to improve upon anything that you felt was lacking in the old job.

Like you mentioned, the hardest thing about changing jobs is leaving the people you worked with for so long.  But every time I've had to change jobs I've always found that there are good people everywhere, and its just a new bunch of friends waiting to be discovered at the new place.

Good luck and have fun.

Thanks Nightclub, and your are correct... I knew nobody when I first started my current job..so I guess it's no different... :icon_thumright:

Good luck on the new endeavor, Doug.  25 years is a long time to be at one place, and it certainly can become your second home and family.  I know exactly what you mean about starting over in a new job and not knowing anyone, but I'm sure you'll make new friends quickly.

I too am starting a new job next month, although I only have nine years at my current one.  I can relate with a number of the feelings you have stated.

Oh, and a home-based CNC machine?  Awesome!

Good luck!

It is very good to hear you have already landed a new job.  Good luck with your new employer.

Will you have a few days off between jobs?  It is always good to decompress for a few days.  (Even if you don't get paid...)

It's weird, but I've been through this a few times as well. I always feel sad that I have left a good place, but excited that I've got something new to do.

Congratulations and good luck. I'm sure that the new place will present new challenges and new satisfaction as well.

Thanks Wyliee, fortunately I do have a few days to decompress and refocus my frame of mind. Going from plastics to airplanes is quite the transition... :guitarplayer2:
