Velocity/Musiclander and Scale Length

Hi. New member and first post. Hopefully this isn't already beat to death but nothing came up using the search.

I'm a 24 inch scale fanatic. I have tired 67 year old medium hands that aren't very stretchy. Both of my acoustics are 24 inch scale but here's the problem. I don't like jaguars or mustangs. What I do like are the Velocity and Musiclander bodies. Warmoth official says they'll intonate using the gibson scale 24.75 conversion but that the the 24 inch "mustang" necks are ONLY for mustang and jag bodies and that they won't intonate correctly on other bodies. Why is this? Is it because Warmouth can't or won't place the bridge rout for the 24" scale? It must be possible, mustn't it? Is the recourse to take the neck and body to a luthier to have the bridge placed?

I know that 3/4 of an inch across a whole fret board isn't very much but that's not what's under discusion here. I'm just trying to figger out how to get what I'm looking for that isn't easiy found out in the market place without going full custom.

The only bodies that Warmoth makes that will intonate with the 24 inch scale “mustang” necks are ONLY for mustang and jag bodies as Warmoth states.

There is an exception unofficially that does intonate, which is the 7/8 body in either Tele or Strat type shapes with the 24" necks or the 7/8 24 3/4" necks.

Anything else, the neck pocket and corresponding bridge position designed for 25.5" vintage Fender spec and necks except for the 24 3/4" scale conversion neck will not intonate.

Those are the available options.

I posted images of a Jazzmaster (25.5") and Jaguar (24") superimposed in another thread recently, and they illustrate the difference in a Fender 25.5" body and 24" body.

If you look at the second image, where the bodies line up at the neck pocket, you can see that the 24" bridge is closer to the neck pocket. Probably 3/4" or so. If you have to move the bridge 3/4" closer to the neck, you would need to move the bridge pickup closer to the neck too.

I've heard of Warmoth doing custom pickup routes with an off-menu upcharge, but I'm not sure if they can move the bridge route.

Otherwise, the best thing to do would be to buy a body without the bridge and bridge pickup routes, and have your luthier do them.

With math, I imagine that you could make a 21" neck or a 13"neck ... mathematically... I couldn't.

I appreciate the replies. Hopefully I'm not being dense but just to make sure. The big issue is that warmoth can't or won't move the bridge route or maybe they will, "off-menu" ?

I had heard the rumour that the 24 inch neck would intonate on the 7/8 bodies but a few years ago, in answer to this question, warmoth replied that "officially, they don't."

What I'm really looking for as a beginner is a simple 24 inch scale guitar that isn't filled with knobs and buttons and a dodgy bridge like the fender/squier M and J's. It's starting to look like the easiest way there is the Sonic Mustang with an eye towards a pick-up upgrade or maybe not. Who knows?

Again, thanks for the info.

I dont believe that Warmoth will move a bridge as an off menu option. The best bet would be to order it with no bridge or pickups and then have your local tech locate and route/drill the bridge and pickups.

As for the Mustang neck on a 7/8 S or T body, there are several examples on this board and other places of that working with success so while its not "officially" supported, it is a known compatibility.

Unofficially they do. See the thread below, there are others, but this one has all you need in terms of evidence etc.

I have never heard of bridge positions being moved to accommodate what you ask as an off-menu option. Therefore, the above will be your easiest solution.
