Well gentlemen, I've successfully survived 200 days without G.A.S. (other than the kind induced by my VERY delicious lentil soup) but alas I am pleased to announce that I am once again feeling the burn!

My original black korina jazzmaster was lovely to look at, but I didn't quite bond with it due to:
  1. The body being too f*ckn heavy! I started with a body blank that weighed over 14lbs and ended up with a body that weighs more than some whole guitars! I'm really not all that picky about guitar weight, but this guitar, primarily because the body felt like a whale hanging around my neck!!! 🐳
  2. The vintage-y pickups being a little too polite for my taste
  3. My general lack of knowledge about jazzmasters going into the build
I got frustrated and decided to part it out and pawn off ALL the parts, except for Shamu (the body), which hangs on the garage wall in shame

Jazzmasters have a lot of idiosyncrasies, but I really do like the shape and ergonomics, overall aesthetic, and the smooth feel of the vibrato system

And so the desire to build a second jazzmaster simmered up inside my chest like a bad case of heartburn after eating Taco Bell for Fourthmeal.

Enter the Muffinmaster Korina Jazzmaster MkII

This time I plan to procure a LIGHTWEIGHT piece of piece of white korina and make a new JM body. For aesthetics I want to copy this very tasty Custom Shop strat:

Natural korina body, gold guard, cream plastics, roasted maple neck with an ebony board

For pickups I have selected a hotter set of jazzmaster pickups, the "Spooky Iola" set from Sunday Handwound. I'm hoping that these will have enough "oomph" for me, but if they don't work out I will probably replace them with a JM-sized widerange humbucker or a JM sized p90.

Also, I'm considering going a little crazy and installing an onboard fuzz in place of the rhythm circuit!

So there you have it folks! A new jazzmaster cometh!!!

Wonderful! Time for a celebration... Cheese for everyone! Wait, scratch that. Cheese for no one. I suppose that can be just as much of a celebration, if you don't like cheese, true?

The jazzmaster is ergonomic while on the couch in my humble opinion. I haven't yet played mine with a strap

I also ordered the pickguard today (from Herad.co as recommended by folks on the OffsetGuitars forum), an AVRI tremolo/vibrato unit, and most of the miscellaneous parts. The main things I'm missing are the neck, tuners, and bridge.

Well well well....................look who is building another one. I suspected you were an addict!

I'd seen roasted birds-eye maple pop up on the Warmoth Instagram page and thought that that might be super sexy on this build so I shot the big W an email and they said they could do one for me! I wasn't planning on ordering a neck right away, but well... I just did it. 🤘

Thanks guys! I also did some forstner-ing and routed the neck pocket. I wanted a slight neck angle, so I put a small metal straight edge ruler under the neck pocket template to give it a bit of an angle and I think that worked out well! Using the neck from another build I found that the neck pocket is a tad looser than I'd like, but the angle seems to be good. With a long straight edge on the fretboard I found the height at the bridge to be a little under 3/4".
