Quilt maple jazz (build 2)

Speaking of Doug, I had him work up this plate for the first bass I made.  But, it looked so nice to me here, I used it.  Might have to have him do another.

I went to install the pickups and noticed an errant wire:
I haven't done anything to it, yet.  I'm thinking I should just move the wire onto the spool and tack it in place with a piece of masking tape.  I haven't been able to sound it out yet, as the Audere system is the last to arrive.  So, I don't know if there is actually a problem here.

Put an ohmmeter on it. Should read somewhere between 6K and 10K I would guess, depending on how many turns of wire are on it. If the wire broke somewhere, it'll read open.

Gotcha.  I should have thought of that yesterday...

All good, Cagey, thank you for the suggestion.  I just tacked the loose wire down with a small spot of masking tape.

The Audere electronics package arrived yesterday.  So, I hopped to.  Here's a shot of the installation, all soldered together and shrink wrapped.

And all tucked away.  I haven't yet drilled the control cover for the LED battery indicator light, and I think I'll be replacing the cover anyway.

David at Audere does such good work.  This is a custom job, noise cancellation for the Fralin pickups, modular design, 4 band equalizer.  Installation was very easy for me, soldered the wires together according to his instructions.  (I never just trust a twisted pair.)  The commons from the pickups, the bridge ground, and the shield ground all got soldered together and connected directly to the jack ground.  Once completed you plug it in and adjust the noise cancellation with two little screws, one for each pickup.

I had changed my mind on the chrome, and now have gone black hardware, again.

Electronics noise cancellation adjusted.  Very, very slight hum at full volume.  I haven't yet done adjustments.  It was late, and I got tired.  It sounds great.  The single coil pickups just have a different tone than the double coil ones.  I'm still a bit worried about the weight of that neck.

Thank you guys.  The Fralin single coil pickups are, uh, well, the best I can describe it is more articulate.  Let muted, maybe?  I love them both.  The bubinga neck is very smooth to the touch, but it's still heavy to me.  I don't know, I might have to do something different.
