I'm itching to start my build thread for my number two.  I finally upped my courage and told my wife I got GAS.  She actually took it quite well.  Something along the lines of, "Well, you work hard..."  Suffice to say, it's on the bench now, and parts are arriving.  We will see what happens with number three, or number four.  :tard:

Quilt maple top over chambered swamp ash.  Warmoth copperhead finish with transparent brown back and natural masking.  Standard J/J routs.

Quartersawn bubinga neck with ebony fretboard and cream dots.

Body and neck were both showcase items.

Pickups: Lindy Fralin standard wind
Electronics: Custom Audere classic with noise cancellation
Bridge: Babicz FCH4
Tuners: Hipshot ultralight

One thing that happened, like, right after opening the boxes.  The neck seemed to fit into the neck pocket like a glove.  However, there was a bit of overspray on the finish.  When removing the neck it caught on the overspray and took a smallish chunk out of the finish on the edge next to the pocket.  I'm so bummed.  I don't think it will be noticeable, but I learned a valuable lesson:  sand the pocket before test fitting the neck.  I think at this point I am more wary of attempting a repair and making it worse.  I'll post pic later.

I think the best thing out of this is that she didn't get angry at you...Love that bubinga though, the headstock as an odd sort of ripple going through it.

Without a doubt, that is the best thing.  I love the bubinga, it's a heavy sucker.  I'll have to see if I still love it as much with it installed.  I don't have a neck dive problem with the roasted maple neck on my first Warmoth.

This is the "chunk" I took out of the finish.  Any recommendations?

My recommendation is do nothing. You got your first earned relic chip and a good story to go with it.

I've done that before, too. If you still have the chip, a small dab of superglue will put it back and hold it. Once it's there for a bit, you can sand the pocket to get the over-hanging overspray off. Just be aware that Warmoth's neck-to-pocket fit is designed to be pretty tight, so you might want to hold back on any dry-fitting activity until you're actually ready to bolt the thing on for good or you may chip it again.

Also, since that's a raw neck, you may want to burnish it before installation. Makes for a much nicer feel, and the .001" or so that that operation removes will make the neck slide in a tad easier.

Exactly! I bet it's worth twice what you paid for it now...  :icon_tongue:

Hari kiri?
But seriously, you could put a dab of poly on it. That might not make it stick out so much to an observer looking closely.

But it is so minor.

Perhaps you could do this to every guitar you make and it would become your trademark.

I think I will just leave it.  It is minor, and I'm a bit concerned I will make it worse by attempting any sort of repair.  A little thin superglue just to make sure the finish around the damaged area is still adhered to the body is all I will do.  The chip itself is long gone, I didn't even notice it had happened, so re-adhering it isn't an option.  As far as making a damaged area into a trademark?  Um, well...

I'm still waiting for things to arrive.  I've been busy at home and haven't had sufficient time to dedicate to the project, yet.  Not this weekend either.  :sad1:

I doubt anyone will notice it. It's small, it's underneath, and the exposed Maple just matches the masked binding anyway.

Sunday was a bass day.  :blob7:  A few updates, starting with a couple issues.

I went to install the pickups and noticed an errant wire:

I haven't done anything to it, yet.  I'm thinking I should just move the wire onto the spool and tack it in place with a piece of masking tape.  I haven't been able to sound it out yet, as the Audere system is the last to arrive.  So, I don't know if there is actually a problem here.

The bushings for the Hipshot ultralight tuners were just a bit small.  Metric vs. American standard measures?  In any case, it wasn't terrible.  A few wraps of aluminum tape and they were nice and snug.

Since I'm going with traditional single coils I opted for copper.  I figured if it doesn't work I'm only out the time it takes to copper.  If it does work, then it is done.  I don't have a battery box on this thing, so when I have the Audere in hand I'm going to test fit and have Doug make me a rear rout cover with a battery box cutout.  I'll copper Doug's plate, too.
