No Man's Land

I got a body for Christmas, couldn't stand the waiting so I bought all of the hardware except the neck, and then went broke...so I'm in limbo too...(un)fortunately I ordered pickups from Bill Lawrence, so neck or not, I still have to wait on those...they're forcing me to be patient!  (Incidentally, their website shows that they completed a move to a new workspace, so hopefully they'll be able to ramp up the rate of their production!)

Dam come the 25th I will be at 5 weeks. I was expecting a sipping update any day. January DOC!?!? Was it a special finish. That is some cure time!!

It was a quilt carved top with washed blue dye, with a matching pegface on the neck.  I just sent an e-mail out this morning, gently asking for an update.  I realized it will be 3 months by the end of this month, so I guess right now it is about 11 weeks.

Nice drill guide, Mark!

Doc, that's gonna be worth the wait!

Zebra,  if you build it, they will come.

I decided to do some maintenance on the Purple Tele, Ms Nesbit.  She got an upgraded toggle and volume pot along with some cleaned up wiring and a couple clean coats of Tru-Oil on the nack of the neck.

Ah.....the wait. Wouldn't it be interesting to have a live cam running from the finishing side of the shop. If it helps I have two stories I can share. One is that after an advertised 6 week wait time for a set of hand would pickups I did receive them.....after three months. The other was with a not to be named outfit that did a neck for me (not Warmoth) where I had personally picked out a fretboard. First go around they put that beautiful fretboard on the wrong shaft wood. Would not have worked out for my project. Second go around they put the fretboard I picked out as a possible second on the right wood and the neck split in a cold snap (not sure why they were not heating their shop) Third try they got it right but the fretboard was a pale comparison to the original choice. I've had mostly good experiences all around but I empathize with anyone waiting and waiting.

Don't hold your breath while waiting. Last set I waited on took about 3 months. They're damn nice pickups very reasonably priced, so you hate to bitch, but come on! It's a coil of wire! It's not like we're asking for permission to adopt a baby grown from scratch.

I'm half-tempted to order a pile of the things just to have them in stock for the next few years. Don't need 'em now, but I'll bet I could charge triple for the things if I could deliver them in a normal lifetime.

I like your idea about having a few and delivering them while people are still in some relative version of youth.  :)

Yeah, as I said, being too broke to buy a neck allows me to be patient enough to wait for pickups...and yes, I have considered buying bajillion Lawrence pickups to have a stash to sell on Ebay at a steep premium to THOSE WHO WANT IT NOW!!!!  Waiting is all part of the fun...

Anticipation is sweet, in a way. But, when you have a guitar sitting there collecting spiderwebs your patience can run out.

I hear that! Wife, kids, mortgage, taxes........ I do a lot of waiting to buy parts too.

My longest wait was a promised 3 month job for a custom neck & body.  Waited close to a year for it and didn't even get the options I ordered.  For the opposite story, I ordered a custom Wagner pickup and it shipped 2 days later.

You sonsabiches aren't helping.  You should be regaling me with tales of shorter than expected waits!  Not this!

Well, here's something...

I got a shipping notice today from Warmoth.  81 days from order to shipment, it's looking like I'll get it on Thursday.  :cool01:

Well.....I did get my custom order Bubinga neck from Warmoth in about 4 weeks at the holidays of all times.

Glad you all are getting your orders.  My Velocity is now at three months...

Curious to see how long my VIP replacement takes.

1st POST question...... So let me get this straight.... There are NO updates posted to your account between when your parts are begun and when they are shipped ?  Sure would be nice to know when its in paint etc. Would also be nice to know body weight after wood work is completed.

This is my 1st adventure building one. This could be a tough period !
