New Warmoth Site Bug Megathread

Response has been very slow today on the website.

Currently it is showing a 504 Gateway timeout.

Gateway Timeout
The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application.

I do wish Warmoth would work on the slowness in the system. I'm no computer expert but there are more sophisticated websites with many more high resolution pictures that are much faster than this platform. One way to help is to bring back the feature where I don't have to open each body or neck in the showcase to see the features. The old system that just moving the cursor over the picture to show the main features helped cut down the website use.

And I think the showcase "newest" feature doesn't actually seem to work so I can view the newest bodies and not have to spend website time looking at bodies and necks that I've already seen. Thanks

There is an issue with the the default sort order (for any category).  Although "Newest" is selected, the items are not in order of newest to oldest.  One must first sort by something else (i.e. price), then sort again by Newest.  Note that once you've done this, the site will remember the latest sort preference and properly apply it to other categories.  That said, if you close your browser, the preference is lost and you must repeat the process above.  And yes, there is something artificially slow about the site's behavior.  It should not take as long as it does to sort and display items.  The slowness has been present since the new site launch.

If it helps, below are some links based on the search feature that list items in order of newest to oldest.  These are based on naming conventions for different categories with numbers that may eventually change and thus stop working as intended.  Incidentally, search results seem less affected by the slowdown than normal category browsing, possibly because they do not load the search refinement options.

Certainly, additional searches could be created for other items

thank you for that information it will help me spend less time on the website. I do not use the website extensively except to look at new unfinished Strat bodies and necks in the Showcase. But what is the consensus of those of you who use the website a lot? Is the new platform a net plus? Because I'm not seeing what features on the current platform outweigh the negatives  and would prefer they just went back to the old platform. What features are people using a lot that wasn't on the old platform? That said I still love the their gear and have a new neck on order.

Looking at body blanks and for each different wood and style there is a brief description. At the very bottom of the description, after the price, there is a green box labeled "More Info", but if you click it you will get a body blank placed in your cart. However, clicking "Learn More>>", located at the end of the description, does link to expanded details. Maybe that green box is supposed to be labeled, "Add to Cart".

Can you provide a link to where you are seeing the described problem.

I get no actual picture in my wishlist just the green body icon. The prices for necks even changes when it goes from build to add to wish list just like the bodies do but with no explanation. Again what was the "good feature" that makes this platform better than the old platform?

Confirmed I see the same thing via that search and also  https://warmoth.com/hardware/supplies/body-blanks. Earlier I was looking here https://warmoth.com/index.php/guitar-bodies/body-blank and could not find it under those sections.

Some category pages don't seem to be showing everything in stock.

For example, at the moment, the "Vortex Necks" category page is empty, but search reveals two Vortex necks in stock.
https://warmoth.com/guitar-necks/vortex
vs
https://warmoth.com/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=vortex+guitar+neck

Soloist bodies:

https://warmoth.com/guitar-bodies/soloist
vs
https://warmoth.com/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=soloist+guitar+body
(the carved top wouldn't be on the regular soloist page, but there are three or four search results that should be)

And one for CBS Strat Necks:

https://warmoth.com/index.php/guitar-necks/cbs-strat (currently empty)
vs
https://warmoth.com/index.php/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=CBS+Strat+Neck (currently 3 results)

Update - All of the above listings are now fixed.

BTW - I love the new toggle overlays for displaying specs! No longer need to click into an item page to get key details.

I'm glad to see that we no longer need to click on a body in the showcase to see the features of the construction. That does help a lot. If I could ask for one more adjustment, Red letters are difficult for older people to read, we need more contrast. The bold face letters are not a problem but the information next to the category titles are in fine print and very hard to see quickly and easily. Thank you

Hmm... I'm not seeing red letters.  I noticed the site uses static external CSS files though, which means visitors might be caching old style sheets.  Just in case, it may be worth reloading the styles: https://warmoth.com/skin/frontend/universal/warmoth/css/styles.css (refresh).

So here is my story in case others are having a similar problem. When I looked at showcase items listed above or below the picture were all the details in red lettering as I mentioned in the above post. So first I tried dumping the warmoth cookies on my system and then without logging in I looked at the showcase items and the red lettering had turned to black lettering. (I thought the problem was solved). Then I logged in and went back to the showcase and all the lettering was red again. So I dumped the cookies again and then opened the link provided by ChronoTrigger77 (thank you for that link) and after using it the specifics of the items are no longer listed outside the photo but like the old platform now appear on the picture when I put my pointer on the photo. That is a great improvement. Thanks again it will save me, all of us, a lot of time viewing the items. So I don't want to see ungrateful but unfortunately the font size is too large so some of the top and bottom specs aren't visible. Does that mean Warmoth can change the font size they use or is there another link I need to fix this as well? Thanks

Hi WindsurfMaui,

If you are on a laptop or desktop (so you have a keyboard), using key combinations CTRL +, CTRL - and CTRL 0 (zero) can help.  The first increases size, the second decreases size and the third resets it to the default size.

==============================

To me, the specs overlay is fantastic, but I've seen errors and inconsistency.  I suspect that the errors I'm getting are happening because I visit the site often and my browsers are caching CSS files.

From the web development side, one way to avoid this problem is to add versioning to the HTML loading the CSS files:

For example, with PHP, we can use the time() function to make every external CSS file load unique and therefore ensure that the latest CSS always delivered:

Change:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="https://warmoth.com/skin/frontend/universal/warmoth/css/styles.css" media="all" />
To:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="https://warmoth.com/skin/frontend/universal/warmoth/css/styles.css?ver=<?php echo(time()) ?>" media="all" />

ChronoTrigger77 That worked. Thanks. I had no idea I could control font on individual websites being displayed.  I need a course on the  these great tricks that make use easier. Thanks again.

Since it was just brought up in a topic and also from my own experience, special instructions included in an order are not appearing the order history in my account, nor did they come through in the e-mail confirmation.

Users are reporting: Problems logging into Account

https://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=33625.msg466182#msg466182

I just checked and although I have a proven working account. I logged in and then was asked thanks for registering (although I was logging in and not registering) and then nothing.

The workaround I found to actually login was as follows.

Go to an in stock part of the showcase. Add an item to wishlist with the heart shape icon, you will then be asked to login. You may again be thanked for registering but the item will be added to your wishlist.  Refresh the page and then you will be shown as logged in and able to view your account etc.

Thanks for the info. I was able to log just by looking at the Strat bodies in the showcase then it allowed me to log in.

Also thank you Warmoth new Gibson Conv mahogany neck with dark rosewood and no finish arrived Friday. Looks beautiful as usual . Ordered 9/1 arrived 10/22.
