If you don't fill the Korina, 'a couple of extra' coats of Tru-oil won't fill the grain. The Maple will be fine, but I'd advise to fill the Korina - or expect the finish to be not completely even.

yeah, we are not really after a factory finish.. I finished this  one with no filler, and it turned out great!!
