New Pedal(s) day

I have the small stone nano, and I love it. although I wouldn't mind getting the analogue man mod to have a trim pot installed that changes the depth of the phase, because sometimes yo need a bit more or a bit less phase then what the little switch offers.
It is still a very nice, lush sounding pedal.

Nice choice, never can go wrong with a crybaby. I have a regular Dunlop crybaby, had it for 20+ yrs, still love the tones.... :icon_thumright:

Thanks for the soundclip! That sounds pretty decent for a wha actually, I'll have to keep that model in mind in the future.

I was actually playing aound with some clean tones.  Toe down and PU on the neck setting, sone sounds pretty cool...then roll the heel back for some added flavor...

Check this out...not sure if it is real or a spoof...

All the wah's I've ever played with seem like more than half their range is all in the icepick territory. And I also hate that you have to sweep through icepick territory in order to shut it off.

thats what I like about this...no ice pick.

I used an original CryBaby for years, had it from when I was 13 or 14. Decent enough but the treble side was just waaaay too much ice pick.

I don't use Wah all that much nowadays, but I'm probably due to go shopping for something, especially if I can tweak the sweep range a bit. I don't need the super treble or the other extreme either.

Plus this looks cool

for the Wah user that wants something their own way, they could build their own at http://buildyourownclone.com/wah.html

Same here. Don't know what ever happened to my original - kept buying other things to try and get a decent response, and never got happy. Morley sucked, DOD sucked, Boss sucked, on and on. But, this Cantrell unit sounds like it might be just the thing.

I've been wanting to try the Vai Bad Horsie wah out, because I like the idea of a photocell wah that doesn't wear out - like others, I've tried a standard Morley and been under-impressed, to say the least. I pretty much gave up on them years ago, because of what they did to the tone when they're switched OFF - all these "genuine re-issue" ones duplicate THAT feature, unfortunately.

Vai is able to execute the normal sounding wah moves at least - I wonder if he's really playing a Morley? :evil4:

Most of thr newer pedals are hardwire bypass or have a decent buffer.  I have mine hooked so I can bypass it out of the circuit.  I have tried listening to the tonal differences with the pedal off and placing it and out of the circuit.  I cannot tell the difference.

I thought Vai was a Ibby wah 10 man. Now there's a wah everyone can love.

Vai uses Morley, or I should say his sig pedal Bad Horsey is a Morley...

They should make you take a test before they let you have and operate a wah pedal, and there should be a surly, uncooperative bureaucrat giving the practical exam.  For the record, I would fail.  And I'm okay with that.

I had a friend say to me, a propos of Yngwie Malmsteen, "If I could play like that, I'd like to think I wouldn't."

I feel the same way about 99 percent of all wah players I've heard.

Curmudgeonishly yours,

Bagman

Wah to me is something that should be used sparingly and thoughtfully (kind of like chorus pedals or whammy bars).  If you're playing some Jimi, SRV or some early GNR songs, it works, fine, but for the most part people just abuse the hell out of it and it sounds like ass. Kirk from Metallica is a huge offender for sure, but I never cared for his playing in general.

There was a guy up in Fairbanks I recall who would split his signal in some way, where the wah was in one path but not the other. That sounded pretty good and balanced... he tried to explain how it all worked but he was a huge rig guy and I was more a 'guitar & 3 pedals straight in to the amp' type. Sort of sounded like the intro to this, you'd get the treble bite clearly but it wasn't overpowering:

That's double or triple tracked and has keyboard in there also, but along the same lines. And yes, it's pretty dated, I know.
