New guitar body is smokin' hot

It's Cagey, who knows what he's thinking of...And he thinks a Floyd is complicated, he ought to try running a crankshaft mill....

I've designed control systems and written software for much more complex systems and machinery than that.

It's not that I don't understand Floyds; nothing could be farther from the truth. To me, they're not even puppy chow. It's that they're unnecessarily complex for their intended duty. I mean, look at one. It's the end point for a steel wire that does nothing but freely vibrate, but what's it got, 60 or 70 parts? I've worked with micro-force torsional transducers that formed endpoints on accelerated life testing machines that didn't have nearly as much going on.

I'm not trying to slam Mr. Rose and I mean him no disrespect. After all, he finally managed to make the world see that all previous vibratos were pure, unalloyed crap by providing one that actually worked as advertised. No mean feat in an industry that's largely driven by emotion. But, the world has also moved on. It didn't stop innovating 30 nanoseconds after EVH installed a Floyd on his fugly half-assed parts-o-caster.

Understood, but honestly, a Floyd only has 6 more parts than a standard Fender trem....Nice try tho... :icon_biggrin:

Per string, you mean. That's 36 extra parts.
Actually I miscounted, a Floyd has 40, not including the arm. A Fender standard has 38, not including the arm...My bad

Now, look for another reason....

Ok, well, I'm willing to be convinced. Apparently, neither one of us can count. So, let's look at these next to each other.

Schaller_Floyd_Rose_Locking_Tremolo_Complete_Set_lg.jpg

Which one looks like it has fewer moving parts? Which has fewer parts and joints? Which doesn't require tools to change strings, or any neck modification? Which has the larger sustain block (if you think such things matter)? Which one doesn't interfere with your palm rest? Which one costs dramatically less?  We'll assume they both use either hardened or stainless steel where it makes sense, which is everywhere.

1. That's a Wilky not a standard strat trem..
            2. You didn't say "moving" parts".... :icon_biggrin:

The standard Strat trem is based on the Wilkie design, it's just cheapified. Apparently, Fender doesn't think their customers need tone or sustain. In any event, their bridge actually uses even fewer parts because they don't fixate their saddles, so they're shy six machine screws. Then, moving or not, parts are parts, and moving parts are arguably worse for sustain since they're necessarily loose.

:icon_biggrin:, you do the math....

Wow that is unbelievable. What is your neck going to be?

Mahogany Warmoth neck, all black gloss including headstock, ebony fretboard, stainless steel frets and mother of pearl dot inlays.

Nice job.

Now I see the problems. You're comparing the Floyd to an old vintage Strat 6 point rather than the modern two point (I wouldn't use a 6 point, either), and I didn't count the saddle height adjustment screws, which the Floyd doesn't have. You have to shim those saddles, which is just lame.

I think there ought to be more painted necks. Also, you're going to love those SS frets if these are your first.

They will indeed be my first.  :glasses10:

This all deserves a thread of it's own.
If I were a mod I'd move it to it's own arena and make sure I had the beer and peanuts concession,
but I'll notify on this one, just in case the smack down continues.  :-P
