My VIP **NEW PICS POSTED **

this guitar is gorgeous. Im getting a VIP soon but I'm still unsure of the exact specs. good thing I read this thread so I know to buy long shaft push pull pots. I've never owned any les paul or PRS where ive needed those.

Played my VIP at accouple of gigs, but it sounded really muddy compared to my tele with the same TX/BBQ pups.  I put a post in the pickup folder, and got a lot of good suggestions, tried a few things, but in the end I snagged a set of Duncan '59 4-conductor pups on ebay that are going in.  Decided there was too much gold (and the new pups are black) so i am going with black rings and gold screws.  Should be a nice contrast...similar to my black neck plate with gold screws.  I also ordered vintage tint black speed knobs to replace the amber ones, and still have a black knob for the 3-way switch.  For the headstock area, I finally got around to ordering a rosewood t-rod cover and also decided to get Ebony tuner buttons to replace the gold metal ones.  Again, going for that black and gold contrast.  Hopefully all of the new parts will be here by this weekend!!!  :headbang1:

And I've got to share this photo a buddy of mine took at our last gig...I LOVE the way it turned out!  I was playing my american v-neck deluxe strat that night

Got the duncans installed this weekend....along with the ebony tuner buttons, rosewood t-rod cover, and vintage black speed knobs.  Also restrung the guitar with Ernie Ball coated slinkys.  The black pickup rings I ordered were on backorder, so I will have to wait till they come in to finish.  I am also thinking about replacing the gold hex spacers on the tuners with black.  Found a place to buy them for $9 for the set of 6 with black washers too.  Might do that when I pull the strings to replace the pickup rings.  For now, the tone seems to be closer to what I was aiming for.  The real test will be tonight at practice!  Please forgive the bad pics once again.  Promise better ones once my pickup rings come in!!

And BTW, thanks for updating us - can't tell ya how many times given out advice here only
to never hear what the solution actually was.  This data is very valuable and typicially
confirms or denies things.  As well, people have to know what works and what doesn't - e.g. "The Facts".

I am waiting to play it thru my main rig before posting up on the original pickup thread...but like I said, so far I am digging it.  We'll see how she sounds cranked with the full band!

BTW, looking at Seymour's site, it appears you hit the nail on the head with your pickup choice:

SD '59 Model -

"For balanced and warm instruments. Works especially well with mahogany bodies and rosewood fingerboards."

Tone chart (Lows/Mids/Highs):

6 / 3 / 8

Scooping those mids out will definitely clean up the mud, for one - add to that a spankin' bright treble to open things up.

That is what I am hoping!  I've got the rio grandes for sale in the gear for sale board...if anyone is looking.  Great on a brighter toned instrument.  LOVE them in my JD telecaster.  They scream in that beast!!  :headbang1:  Need to start building back up the geetar fund for the next project  :)

This fudrucker SCREAMS!!  Very happy with the results so far.  Played it thru my usual rig (HotRod DeVille 4x10) and it had plenty of drive, but a nice clean tone.  Also plugged it in to a bandmaster VM with 2 - 2x12 cabs and cranked it...and...  WOW.  :party07:
