My VIP **NEW PICS POSTED **

I had DangerousR6 cut a custom neck plate for my tele with my Cool Cat logo (old band logo that I carried forward into my interument/amp projects), but I wanted something more visible for this guitar.  So I contacted a few guys who do inlaying, and will be have a rosewood trussrod cover done up!  Promissed my wife this would be it for $$ spent on this guitar  LOL.

Cool Cat is Cool.... :headbang:

made a little progress today while my son was napping  :)  Pickups are just set in there for pictures.  Still need to drill and mount the rings

Decided to rock my DangerousR6 Neck plate on this guitar instead of the tele.  I think it looks good with the gold screws

Just realised the bridge pickup is mounted backwards in the ring!  oops.  Will have to flip that around before I do the final mounting.  LOL.  Was a late night out partying for my birthday last night and I didn't even notice until I posted the pictures on here    :o  :occasion14:

Sweeeeeeeeeet....... :icon_thumright:

The plate rusted just enough to give it a nice gold appearance!!  What would you recommend now to stop it from rusting any more?

Just about any kind of clear coat would work. You could use clear enamel or laquer, or even a clear poly....

Couple of questions for others who have built a warmoth with a black TUSQ nut.  I know nothing about filing nuts, and I am hoping I won't need to file this one.  I used to have a luthier setup all of my guitars for me, but it was getting quite expensive.  I've been learning to do more and more myself, and have picked up a Stewart McDonald basic setup kit.  My question is this.  I typically run Ernie Ball Skinny Top/Heavy bottom strings...will they work with out modifying the nut?  Would I be better off running lighter stings and not having to file the nut?  Or am I stuck taking it to the luthier to have the initial setup done?

Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom Slinky Strings are the perfect hybrid set for those who like thick bottom strings without sacrificing the ability to solo on smaller strings. These strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and most exacting specifications to ensure consistency, optimum performance, and long life. The wound strings are made from nickel plated steel wire wrapped around a hex shaped steel core wire.  The plain strings are made of specially tempered tin plated high carbon steel; producing a well balanced tone for your guitar. Gauges .010 .013 .017 .030 .042 .052

I used to run regular slinky's, and have been toying with possibly going back to those for this guitar.  Mainly curious if the fatter wound stings would even fit the nut correctly!

Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Electric Strings are our top selling set, and are favored by many musicians around the globe. Regular Slinky strings are played by Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Steve Vai and legions of guitar players worldwide. These strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and most exacting specifications to ensure consistency, optimum performance, and long life. Regular Slinky wound strings are made from nickel plated steel wire wrapped around a hex shaped steel core wire.  The plain strings are made of specially tempered tin plated high carbon steel; producing a well balanced tone for your guitar. I really need to get humpin and finish my VIP!!!  My wife and I bought are first house and moved in over the weekend.  Got a nice shop area in the basement, so I am hoping to start working on it again very, very soon.  Just need to mount the pickups and finish the wiring.

Almost embarassed to say that I am still not done with my guitar   :(  Have been busy with our new house.  Life was so much more relaxed as a renter  LOL.  Anyways, enough excuses.  Got everything bolted in place this week, and some strings on.  Just need to finish up the wiring and tweak the neck and bridge a bit and she will be done!  One of my house projects was to redo the basement...and make one wall my guitar wall.  That is now done too!!

Will take better outdoor photos once the wiring is done.

The amp is the little 1.5 watt firefly that I built last winter.  Plenty of power for the basement.  Picked up the 4x12 B-52 cab from a friend for $50.  My deville stays at the practice space!  Too heavy to lug back and forth every week

My picture taking sucks.  Or my camera does.  Or it was the rush to get some outdoor pics before the rain...  Enough excuses.  They are better than the basement pics, but really don't do this thing justice.  Warmoth did an amazing job on the parts, and it plays like a dream!  The neck is silky smoove....

Gahh... I love this guitar.  I don't know that I'd do washed blue (I'd lean towards transparent blue w/ blackburst), but otherwise this is essentially the VIP I'd make.

You could just do Blue dye w/Black burst.
