Mooncaster neck construction

Hi all,
I did a bit of searching but couldn't find an answer.  Why is the Mooncaster neck Modern construction only? Is it related to the Mooncaster body construction? If so, what about when used as a custom build with different bodies? I searched for the oldest mention of Mooncaster but got results from 2013 and I don't know when it was introduced but it looks like earlier than that.

I ask because I became interested in those fender contoured heels/plates after holding some but also saw the info about the screw location for those not being compatible with Warmoth Modern construction.

Probably because the modern construction has more options than the others.

I also suspect the Mooncaster is not as popular as other necks. So probably it is an easier option on the CNC machine when doing a run of modern necks to do a couple with the Mooncaster headstock.

You can use a Warmoth Contoured Heel with the modern type necks, but yes it won't work with a Fender style.

Interesting... it'd be nice to be able to order the other types for a custom though. I'm not sure I'd like the Warmoth one as much since it still has a corner in the palm of your hand at that point but I've never held one :)

Also I'd be be shaping it myself since I bought a body locally so the Warmoth style would be more work and care would need to be taken for it to be level and flat. When I got the idea in my head I got impatient waiting for things to arrive in the mail and started the job but fortunately I only took a couple of millimeters off the very corner. So it's probably still good for a standard plate and that region will be the dark part of a burst too so I could repair if necessary assuming the finish would still stick to that.

I also had another look at my search results and it looks like the Mooncaster did come out about 2013. I was hoping I'd find reasoning for the construction choices in an announcement type post.

I suppose another choice you could do is a paddle headstock in Vintage Modern construction and shape the headstock yourself.

Thanks for the idea - I have a router and love to use it :) I've seen some pages about Starcaster custom builds that have the more accurate swoosh which would be cool. Although I've just looked at the Warmoth paddle headstock page and it doesn't offer goncalo alves as a shaft choice :( Maybe I can ask nicely.. assuming the paddle has the dimensions to accommodate a star/mooncaster.

If you want an accurate pattern for the Starcaster headstock, Faction Guitars offers a neck set with that in it here. That set also has the Mustang, Snakehead and Electric XII patterns in it.

I wonder if it's the size of the headstock, cauase the Slapshot is also Modern only even though it's not an angled headstock. Maybe the bigger headstocks need special sized wood that only certain programs or whatever work with. I dunno.
