The second set here is one of those, "Hidden Image," things. Before you look at #2 see if you can find the Easter egg..

Sounds good dude. I just got a rosewood neck and it is a dream. Feels like silk. You're going to love yours!

Sims replied, he said he can do an exact match for EBMM's Lava Pearl finish. It's going to him as soon as it shows up.

This EBMM Bongo was the inspiration, the color should be an exact match to the gloss on the body, but with all black chrome.

Do I need the 1/2 or 3/8 Hipshot tuners to fit the Ultralite hole?

The Hipshot Ultralites are available in 1/2" and 3/8".  So technically there is no "Ultralite hole."  The standard ream on standard (Fender style non-angled) pegheads is 11/16" and the 1/2" Ultralite and standard tuner fit those.  The ream for the Gotoh GB7s and Hipshot Ultralite 3/8" tuner ream is 14mm.  So which ream did you get?  If you got the standard ream, get the 1/2" tuners.  If you got the smaller 14mm ream ($25 upcharge) for the GB7s or 3/8" Ultralites, get those.

I understand the confusion, especially because there are 2 sizes of Ultralites.  Ultralite refers to the lightweight design and not so much the size.  Confusion is also added because the straight Fender style peghead is available in the larger size with an upcharge for a smaller ream, and the angled peghead is only available in the smaller ream.

Crap, I ordered the $25 upcharge holes. Same difference, I guess. As long as I can get clover keys.

Just ordered my Dunlop Straploks, 3/8 Ultralites and Duncan P pickup. Ended up going with the Quarter Pound, as I figure I can always turn it down, but you can only boost it so much.

You'll be happy with the 3/8" Ultralites.  I have those on both of my builds, and are very necessary to prevent neck dive, which might be an issue with an all Rosewood neck.

I got my Quantum View email. Now, time slows down until 1/5/10. Man, that's all the way into next year.

I'm curious.  Does nobody around here like the Fender Custom Shop '60s P-Bass pups or standard Hipshot tuners that are different from the clovers

If I wasn't building a Fender-style bass I'd have looked into other tuner designs. As-is, my old J had clovers and I just got used to them.

OK......our basses will be more similar than different.  Both are modern takes on a proven platform.  I look forward to seeing yours and hearing how you like an all rosewood neck - I've had bubinga/bubinga and bloodwood/bloodwood on my Jazz.  This bass had an ebony/bubinga neck (replaced with present rosewood/maple), and it now has a tortoise pickguard.  Post pics of your's as available  :guitaristgif:

I have a "modern classic" J bass planned as well, but I promised my wife I'd limit it to one per year.

With my parts arriving soon, I am realizing how unprepared I am.

Basically I need to shield the routes and wire the electronics, drill the holes for the pickguard, tuners and string retainer... what else? The body is going to be finished for me so that part is taken care of, and the neck is not getting a finish, so no worries there either. My experience before this was really limited to changing strings. I paid someone $40 to change the nut on my Jazz when it cracked.

Its a bit late, but I'm having that, "Can I do this?" moment.
