Got a table saw? Cut a very narrow (1/8" or less) strip of maple from one of your scrap pieces, then use a razor or an exacto knife to slice that into short strips, then cut those into neck-wide pieces. Should look like a pile of square maple toothpicks with blunt ends. Glue those into the slots on your neck, then sand it back to flush.

No table saw. I have a drill and a belt sander. I do, however, have a coping saw and some razor blades, and a lot of patience. I'll practice shaving some maple tomorrow.

Anyways, routed today! And drilled. The body is really thin, the hole is huge but the plate covers it.

Taking a break to let the maple dust clear out of the air. Here's the new 2+2 headstock, cause my old upside-down Stingray design didn't fit with the huge tuners. When I drew it originally I was planning on Ultralites.

That just goes to show - when it comes to bass heads: no food after midnight, and never get them wet! Oh, and umm... don't expose them to bright lights. I think that covers it.

Ignore these instructions at your peril!

Who knew Home Depot sold guitar parts? I got this self-adhesive pickguard up there for $0.28. Fourteen cents remaining!

Yeah, not sure what they're going to sound like or even what gauge they are, but I do have some strings I bought off eBay for about $4 from some shop in Hong Kong.

Kind of looks like a leather-ish Rick pickguard to me. I might trim it down a bit on the bottom to make it match the top more.

Probably never needs waxing, either <grin>

You know what else those tiles are great for? Mouse pads. Cheaper than dirt, thin, they stay put and they last forever. Or, at least until you get tired of them, then there are a million other designs to choose from.

Shhh! Stewart-MacDonald hears you, they'll buy up all the existing stock and raise the price to $42/pint.

Having one hell of a time trying to get these fret lines laid into the slots.

On a lighter note, I found the original sketch of this design that I did years ago, stashed in an old Tinypic account.

I'm giving the sawdust fretlines one last chance, since shaving the wood down is flat out not working. I keep stabbing myself when I try to do it with a utility knife, and I can't get them anywhere near accurately sized with my saws.

If that fails, I'm going to swipe a bunch of toothpicks from the thingy on the counter at IHOP, leave my $0.14 as a tip and layer them up in the slots. What kind of wood are toothpicks, anyways? Pine?

Yeah, I think they're just pine, and not only that, they're irregularly shaped.

Renamed from Douglas to Elwood. Not, "The Wood," in espanol, but my great grandfather's middle name. He got me into making my own stuff since he was straight out of the Depression.
