Its happening, we're buying the jewelry store.

I have a jillion ideas for guitar accessories, if you want some.... here's a sample:

1) Modify Shubb capos. Instead of the little hard rubber pad that holds the strings down, use a thin soft pad (wetsuit/mousepad?), with a curved piece of delrin riding the strings with six notches in it so that when you bend strings, THEY'D STAY WHERE THEY BELONG.... grrr. Why hasn't this been made yet?  :icon_scratch: You'd have to do attachments for 1 5/8", 1 11/16", 1 3/4" guitars with different curvatures... probably custom all the way, & maybe for other capos too. For professionals only ($25+) , my friends and students are always asking me to do their frets and I make $25 an hour doing something easier. So I tell them $200 and they're all like "Ewww... I though you were nice..." Well ewww, guess I'm not "nice" enough to work for minimum wage (anymore). :icon_biggrin:

2) Eyeball guitar knobs. Hey. I'd buy some....

Maybe little pink brain knobs, and tiki head knobs too:

Thanks for all the kind words....  and good ideas!

I still have a huge learning curve on all of this.  But I'll get up to speed.  And when I do, there will be a guitar angle to the store.  I keep coming up with ideas.  And I hear you about the tools, I used some of them to work on the el-cheapo Warlock (its almost playable now)

As far as location, Its Missionhill Jewelry.  In Mission KS, on Johnson Drive.  5832 Johnson Dr.  Its along a stretch of old shops chock full of small independant businesses, something the locals prefer.  Just down the road from a giant hole in the ground that used to be a Mall.

Wyliee, I live in Shawnee.  Do you know where the "Fun" costume and gift store is on Johnson Dr. near Quivira?  My back yard faces the back of their store.

Like I said, we officially take over in November, perhaps earlier if all goes well.  We've just got some stuff to sign and we're good.

I've always wanted a job were I could wear a suit and still have a pony tail, pointy goatee, and earings.  Since I'm the boss, I set the dress code.  And I've also noticed just how differently you get treated when you wear a suit instead of jeans and a leather jacket.  Its like people respect you.  Crazy.

..and I just got word...  its happening early.. This week.  Holy cow!  I got work to do!

I haven't been back in many years, but I think I remember where that is.  When I was young, I lived just behind 10 Quivira Plaza, so we were almost neighbors!

I, too, grew up and lived in the area for the better part of my life!  I bought my first ID bracelet in Jr. High at Missionhill Jewelry.  I also had a store in Mission (since sold and closed), and am familiar with the area where you live and Eric lived.  It may be disturbing, but I know where to find you now...

For some reason when I saw that pic of your store front, I immediately thought of Sun Records.   Of course I think about records a lot....

Congrats, and good luck, man.

Yea, I lived in the area of 79th and Quivira for about 6 years and 72nd and Antioch for another 10 years.  I know right where you are at.
Doubtful I will be cruizin' to KC for jewelry, but I still have lot of friends there and I will be sending them your way...

Best of luck in your new establishment.  :headbang:  I might add, you are lookin' mighty dapper in that suit...

while I was in college I worked at Temple Slug..  is it still there?

It's still there - doing and selling what they always have (to the best of my knowledge)!  I don't get around the Westport area other that to shoot straight to a couple music venues you may recall: Kelly's & Blaney's (they sound Irish don't they).  The Temple Slug has been around for 40+ years - it just keeps going on and on and on and on  :toothy12:

Day #1, Customer #1, Call to the Cops #1....  all in one fell swoop.  Such a headache.  And it ate up my morning.  Then I got a call from my kid's school, had to shut down and go get her and take her home.  Then deal with the cop issue again...  and then we had customers....  Oh my head hurts.  But at least business was brisk in the afternoon.

I actually feel sorry for the guy I called the cops on, he's got reason to be upset, but not at us.  His wife was in stage 4 breast cancer, and the watch she gave him 10 years ago quit working.  It was repaired in our store a year ago, so naturally he thinks we sabotaged it to die now, and therefore wants us to fix it for free.  He'd call, scream and yell.  Call back and appologize.  Call again and scream and yell.  Call back and appologize.  There were threats in there, so I called the cops.  Our Horologist (watch maker) said the watch is old, cheap, and not waterproof.  Therefore, if you get it wet, water will get in the watch and rust the movement.  Hardly our fault, unless it was us wearing his watch for the last year, while taking a shower, which it wasn't.

It says "Water Resistant" on the back, but that doesnt mean waterproof.  A common mistake, but nothing to make threats about.  I can see how he'd think that, but its 10 years old, come on.

And I understand that he's upset.  His wife gave him this watch, and she's sick, so it means something to him.  He's clearly hurting.  I'm just the person he decided to blow up on today.  With cops hanging out, I handed him back his watch and invited him to shop somewhere else from now on.

Perhaps tomorow I'll get all my new items out on the shelves and update some of the paperwork and signs.  And the mailing list...  Now I've got my son's and stepdaughter's choir and band concert to go to...

Ah the joys of owning your own business.  That little voice in the back of my head that kept whispering "Don't do it" is now screaming "See!!! I told you so!!!!".

Well, dealing with the public can suck - I know this very well.

But don't worry - you'll have good days as well.  You just have to get on with
it and not let it bother you.

Let me tell you, people can FREAK OUT if you don't get their morning latte right...
