I went to the store today to view a couple of gibsons i mgiht be interested in.
well la di da, the gibsons all seem cheap now and look like cheap chinese.
it's only cause of warmoth's showcase this happened ;[
i guess a warmoth les paul is what i'm gonna get :D

i feel a special body is coming and i'm gonna tag it, you feel that sometimes ?

Seriously, get out your guitar, and put some chords under what you wrote.

It could be a hit!

Something about a bolt on Les Paul... is so wrong to me.  But to each his own.  I guess you can think of it as a weird mutant Telecaster.

I put together a Warmoth bolt-on Les Paul for my best friend. He has no complaints.

Full Disclosure: He's a Billy Gibbons/Joe Walsh kind of guy. Very few, if any, will get this.

I think so too - it violates some pretty serious cultural rules, and rock & roll is above all about following the rules and learning how to be a "rebel" in an exactly-prescribed manner.... Hell, I started as a anti-materialist hippie - but a great Martin or Gibson guitar and the most expensive bestest dope in town weren't "materialistic", they were rebellious.
Somehow... :cool01:

Rules???

I have no problem with a bolt on LP.  When I build a Warmoth I'm not trying to build a reproduction of anything, just a great personalized guitar.

Every time I see a nice LP build here, I think of starting one for myself, but I also can't get over the bolt on thing. I've owned several Gibson LPs in my life...now interestingly, I currently have 2 LPS builds, bolt ons both, and I have no moral objection. Point is, I've never owned a Gibson LPS. I wonder if that's the issue, the point of reference of the "original"?

i am not an LP guy, but i sort of agree with you.

depending on what kind of guitar you are after, it seems like alot of high end stuff utilizes either a set in neck or a neck thru construction.
(again, depending on what kind of guitar you are using), bolt on necks seem to give me a "its-made-this-way-because-its-cheaper-to-manufacture" vibe.

i personally tend to love bolt on necks because you can swap them out pretty easily (and because D R6 can make you an awesome neckplate to go on the back!)  , but if i were ever going after an LP, i think that i would definatly want a set in neck.

aside from that, set in necks (supposedly) give you more sustain because there is a better contact between the neck and body.
