Hitting the limits of my Tonelab

It's not surprising to me that demand for these things is high. I read stuff about people selling their rigs to buy these often. Just the other day on facebook a guy was telling my friend how he switched to the Axefx, because, believe it or not, it really is that good. I wouldn't be surprised if my friend follows suit.

So... do you only take advice or conjecture about or have discussions concerning suicide from people who've actually committed suicide?

Just because somebody doesn't have direct experience with something doesn't mean they don't have valid input or concerns that are worthy of discussion.
So then, why did you state an opinion on something you were not informed on and not classify it as such.
Not trying to nitpick as I enjoy your posts, but for someone to say an Ultra is not worth the $500 more without having used either product is kinda off.

Why start restraining yourself now TBurst?? You are obviously very opinionated, let's hear them. In all of your nobility or superiority or whatever you are attemting to display it seems you have over looked the fact that the OP has clearly stated his decision.
Man you are reading things into it. The OP asked if there was a benefit different between 2 items that justified the cost difference. Opinionated? Yes. We all are. Thats what helps collaboration. The difference in informed opinions versus uninformed opinions.

If you have used these units, you are informed. If you have not, well you are uniformed. It is pretty much that simple.

Would you take stock investment advice from a worker at BK or at a brokerage firm? Same scenario. It has nothing to do with one person being better than the other, just more informed on a specific topic. Thats all, nothing more.

and with that,

I go on the site last night, and the foot controller was available!  Almost placed an order, but then thought "nah - I'll wait till I can get both".  Then suddenly it's not available anymore!

I wonder if they are whittling down the reserve list and offering something like 10% on the website when they are available or something...

Yes that is happening. Bascially as I understand FAS has enough bandwiidth to ship x units daily. If they only have x-3 paid on the waiting list that day, the extra 3 (in this case) go to the store. There's a locked thread on this over at FAS.

Just remember to order 7-pin MIDI cable also. FAS doesn't have those. I can easily recommend those over at bestronics.

Gentlemen, Gentlemen.

I welcome all comments, informed or not. We're just having a friendly discussion here.

BTW, placed an order for the pedalboard - it was back on the site.

I rarely label my posts as true/false, serious/humorous, fact/opinion, evidence/conjecture, right/wrong, etc., etc. and I don't see anybody else doing it, either. Generally speaking, the writing style or message content speaks for itself. Of course, regardless of the tone of a post, everyone is free to agree/disagree with what's written, and make comments to that effect to clarify or add to the content.

Now, just so you're not confused, IN MY OPINION, the "Ultra" version of the Axe FX isn't worth the extra $500. But, that's because I wouldn't use the features that the extra $500 brings. Somebody else, apparently yourself and many others, might feel differently. That's fine. I could not care less even if you paid me to. But, even without owning an Axe FX, I know I wouldn't pay extra money to get features I wouldn't use. And as bizarre and impossible as it might seem, I also know without owning or ever having driven a Jeep Cherokee that I wouldn't pay $1,500 extra to have muppet hide seats installed, should I someday decide that a Jeep Cherokee would be something I want. Lotsa stuff like that in my head. You know - derivative thoughts based on things I know? My guess is you do, too. It's what separates us from the lower life forms - that ability to reason and draw conclusions based on analogous knowledge and experience.

Cool! Did they give any kind of lead time on it? You've got to be pretty excited. I know I would be. I've never seen gear like the Axe FX and that controller get so much positive press, reviews and commentary from so many places.

I have stated my rigs in this thread and that is why I am following it, my basic micked rig is not a tone monster when it comes to variety so I enjoy hearing what is out there and really want to know what is worth buying and what is not. I want to hear from guys who own, have owned a while and what they think are the drawbacks. I can not believe what is offered compared to what we had back in the day when everyone just wanted a wahwah and a fuzz face. However having been a peddle head for so long, until I got a modeling amp I never even considered a multi foot peddle such as these. Now seeing how they now have evolved and been tweaked into better and better products I want opinions from people who know, not who are reading GW. Keep up the thread, I am learning a lot here.

uh - oh

The ultra is on the site now.

I was not going to spring for it, but there it is sitting in my shopping cart....  :o

The absolute worst thing that could happen is you aren't happy with it and have to flip it. Check eBay - these things go for more used than they do new because people can't wait. It's one of the most exciting pieces of gear to come along in a long time. Once they make up their mind and have the money, they want it RFN, not when Fractal has one available.

Update - just bought the ultra!  :headbang:

Turns out the ultra has a looper, but the standard does not.  Since I'm still in love with Feist, this made all the difference for me.  :toothy11:

So much for rationality in purchases :).  But I'm ok with it - used to be into motorcycles after all...

Good for you! I'm sure you're going to be very happy. What are you going to run it through?

Congrats!

Cagey, Mayfly will have a 14 day money back option, so really no need to flip it. But they do hold their value.

Mayfly, please run this through FRFR and not an amp/cab. And join up on the Fractal forum. Read through the manual many times as well as through Yek's article on the Wiki page.

Thanks gentlemen,

I plan to run it through my Bose L1's for small shows and rehearsal, and the PA for bigger shows.  That is, business as usual.
Already very much acquainted with the wiki, but will be spending more time there over the next few days for sure!

Starting to get excited now.

That sounds good. Don;t forget to order a 7 pin MIDI cable.
I get mine from

One of my bands was using the bass guitar just straight through the PA and front wedge monitors. We decided to add a small combo amplifier to the back line since some of the stages we play are large and when you get up center stage, close to the band, you can't hear bass. I read that Dweezil Zappa ran into the same issue with the Fractal; wide stage, no guitar getting to the front and center audience. He introduced those Atomic Amp wedges (sold on the Fractal site) to the back line, pointed at the audience, to fill the void.

Arg, the constant item: Good sound stage or good FOH. Last time I checked I wasn't paying myself. So FOH wins every time! With that in this situation a better monitoring solution is needed. Glad DZ found one. I got the feeling I am getting ready to go IEM.

DZ is smart to realize that (monitoring) as we knew he would be. Too many guitarists are so focused on how they sound on stage, they are oblivious to how they sound FOH, to their paying audience. Guys, you have got to love your audience!
