Guess what I'm making

Another piece of the puzzle has arrived.  Soon to be installed along with the tuners.  Gonna line up the neck dontchaknow.

Where were you playing in Vegas?  I'm there a fair bit and would have loved to have seen it.

Hi Mark,

I was playing a little hole in the wall place called the Cellar Lounge.  I think there were 10 people in the audience  :headbang:

Doesn't matter. Now you can say you've played Vegas. You're up there with Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Liberace, Tom Jones, Conway Twitty, et al.

I'd be careful invoking Sinatra; I once saw a King Crimson concert at the Chicago Theatre, and Adrian mentioned he signed his name in the rafters right next to Sinatra's; three songs later his voice was completely gone... stolen by Old Blue Eyes?

Or, you know, it could've just been laryngitis or something.

Lot's of fun last night.  First I installed the bridge studs:

I used a block of soft wood and a very hard hammer.  With the posts installed in the studs (not the tone pros posts - but some others that I had that came with the bridge):

Both installed.  Including grounding wire (sorry Greg):

Those Tone pro thingys really work!

Next I put in the beer cans, er I mean tuners:

I did all this to ensure that the neck would be lined up correctly.  In hindsight I probably didn't need to:

Kinda looks like a guitar!

Time to glue.  Titebond?  A dab will do ya.  Carefully...too much could cause gaps as glue dries.

Gentlemen,

Last night was spent puttering around - mostly because I'm avoiding the big glue event!

I decided I would drill all the hardware holes that I needed and test mount hardware:

and I made a little clamping caul for the top of the fretboard.

I'm out of things to do!  Time to glue it I guess...

That's a cool jig.  Another tip is make sure the neck is seated at the butt end too.  Some clamps, depending on what you use, can exert a small amount of horizontal pressure.  Make sure the butt of the neck is completely seated after you clamp.

What I have done is scribe a small line on the back of the neck where it meets the body.  This is done during a dry fit.  When I glue, I check the line for any separation.  If there is a gap, the neck has slid.

Just is case I am not giving an accurate account, think of hanging a guitar by the neck and having the body slide down...this the type of gap I am mentioning.

Also be sure to have a damp rag handy to wipe off excess glue.  If it sets, it is really hard to remove.

Gentlemen,

The main event:

I used titebond III and used a brush to get it evenly on both surfaces.  When I was happy with the application, I clamped it down.  Didn't get a lot of squeezeout (some but not a lot), which is different from my usual glue experience, but perhaps that's because I took a refined and measured approach this time rather than just gloping the stuff down.

I'll give it the grab test in 24 hours.

Hey!  It's a guitar!

Neck joint is fairly tight - I can't slide a piece of paper in there anymore:

Titebond III has 52% solids, which apparently is good for gap filling.  Seems to have worked on the (small) gap that the neck joint used to have.

Now I just have to get the thing to Tonar!

That's gonna be nice, Nice, NICE!

How'd you talk Tonar into doing a Mahogany body again? Last time he did one, he said he was done with them <grin>

I think that was because of the TV White for Max, was it not? I'm sure Trevor doesn't have something that torturous in mind for Greg. Then again, I wouldn't mind a TV White LP Jr....

Yeah, I think you're right. I don't think it was the TV white that bugged him, though. It was filling that pesky Mahogany. I've done it myself, and can attest to its low level of fun.
