Eric Clapton, lead guitar, John Lennon, rhythm guitar, Mitch Mitchell of the Hendrix Experience on drums, and Keith Richards (!) on bass! What's not to love?  :blob7:

Yoko Ono sucks so bad.  And she broke up the Beatles.  I dunno what Lennon saw in her.  Oh well.

I think Derek and the Dominoes were better.

Should we play the "Make Your Own Supergroup" game?

dbw's supergroup, 1969 version
Guitar & vocals - Jimi Hendrix
Drums - Ginger Baker (Cream)
Bass - John Entwistle (The Who)

dbw's supergroup, 2008 version
Guitar - Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine)
Vocals - Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees)
Drums - Dave Grohl (Nirvana)
Bass - Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

Drums: Dave Grohl (Nirvana)
Bass: Les Claypool (Primus)
Guitar: Jerry Cantrel (Alice In Chains)
Guitar: Dimebag Darrel (PanterA)
Vocals: ?????

wait, that band would suck

Drums: Vinny Paul Abbot (PanterA)
Bass: Rex Brown (PanterA)
Guitar: Dimebag Darrel Abbot (PanterA)
Vocals: Phil Anselmo (PanterA)
Backup Vocal/on stage sacrifice: Yoko Ono (seventh level of hell)

I like Grohl more as a singer and bandleader than as drummer in Nirvana (I was always kinda meh on Nirvana). Probot kicks, though.

70's supergroup:
John Mclaughlin and Ritchie Blackmore: guitars
Moe Tucker: drums
Sid Vicious: bass
(Two insufferably arrogant pinheads get the worst rhythm section imaginable. Hilarity ensues.)

Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) - Drums
Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) - Backup Vocals, Keyboard, other crazy effects
Vinnie Hornsby (Sevendust) - Bass
John Petrucci (Dream Theater) - Lead guitar
Shaun Morgan (Seether) - Rythm guitar and vocals

Maybe Corey Taylor on vocals......either would be amazing as long as they didnt get too crazy and just scream all the time

I'm surprised Maynard didn't make that cut.

neilium:  I think Grohl's gotten a lot better since Nirvana.  You should hear him on Songs for the Deaf (the Queens of the Stone Age album).

The thing about supergroups is that they always suck.  The end result is never really the sum of the parts.

I don't know about that one Louie, I always thought Damn Yankees was a pretty rockin' band.  Actually, any band with Uncle Ted on lead guitar is pretty rockin'!

bass: Pawel Maciwoda
drums: james kottak

or

Maynard is a darn good singer, but if Im building my own supergroup, i prefer a little more crunchiness on the vocals

Velvet Revolver, oh wait they broke up.  The biggest drawback of super groups has to be the egos.  Then again, that might be why some of those musicians got where they are.
Patrick

guitar- eddie van halen (without the ego, perhaps??)
guitar- slash (guns n' roses, velvet revolver)
bass- geddy lee (rush)
drums- Neil pert (rush) or possibly carter beauford (dave matthews band- probably not what you were expecting but this guy's unbelievable)
vocals- Myles Kennedy (alter bridge)

Booker T. Jones
Steve Cropper
Donald "Duck" Dunn
Al Jackson Jr.

Second would be the Jefferson Airplane with Spencer Dryden.
