The Gibson looks ok to me, but unremarkable. I guess they're trying to get some sales back from PRS.

Check out Hartung guitars. Now there's an elegant, unique design, with real improvements to concept and playability. By far the best guitars I played at NAMM last year. If had had 4k then, one would have left with me.

That is quite a piece of work, but I'm not sure if I like it or am just scared of not being able to see it when it's dropping bombs on me. They can keep their more LP-ish models though.

You picked as your example the most outlandish guitar Hartung has ever made....his version of the Dusk Tiger.  :icon_biggrin:

The ones I'm talking about are his "Embrace" models:

He makes some really killer guitars, some of his single cuts are insane... :headbanging:

After giving it a few days I am not sure about this new Gibson, I think someone else mentioned it. The traditional LP headstock does not seem to be as harmonious with the body to my eye as an offset variant of the headstock might have been. An explorer type headstock may have worked.

Reading a few comments on forums and Gibson's site opinion seems to be divided from its fantastic as it is, to it would have been better with an explorer headstock and so on.

Does anyone know what the intended target demographic is for this new model?

To be fair to Gibson, I am not sure about the PRS McCarty 594 either but some folks love them.

Personally, if I was in the market for another Gibson, for that type of money I think I would get a Les Paul Axcess Alex Lifeson with Piezo.

I've had times where buying a guitar was easy and times where it was not. Didn't make a difference to what I like or not.

Of course, if you have bad taste and money it can demonstrate a lack of discernment quite demonstrably.  :)
