Saw those earlier today. The design does not do anything for me. I think it's because the traditional Gibby headstock shape looks so incongruous with the body.

Upper fret access looks particularly horrible.

That being said, it's probably the nicest new design Gibby has come out with since the Dusk Tiger.

At 4k it's not even on the table for discussion, AFAIC. There are soooo many better options out there for that money.

Check out Hartung guitars. Now there's an elegant, unique design, with real improvements to concept and playability. By far the best guitars I played at NAMM last year. If had had 4k then, one would have left with me.

I love Gibson guitars-there ain't too many instruments finer than a primo Les Paul, but this design...
Y-A-A-A-WN...doesn't move me in any way... :dontknow:

Ooh, I quite like that.

Mind you, I also like the Gibson 2017 EBs,

And apparently I'm the only person who does.

Slight flashbacks to Norlan era Gibson basses, which were a high point of Gibson basses, for me. And apparently, only me.  :sad1:

I'll have to agree with double A, to me looks like a hap-hazard attempt at modifying a LP to make a double cut away... :dontknow:

I've seen that. I have pros and cons. AA is right, for the money, there are a lot of others out there.

I like the gold top finish but $4K ... lol. Wouldn't happen for me even if I was stinking wealthy.

The Gibson looks ok to me, but unremarkable. I guess they're trying to get some sales back from PRS.

That is quite a piece of work, but I'm not sure if I like it or am just scared of not being able to see it when it's dropping bombs on me. They can keep their more LP-ish models though.

Not quite alone, that looks pretty good to me too - has a bit of a Mosrite vibe, which isn't a bad thing IMHO. Likewise, Grabbers et al had their own peculiar charms.

...I like the Music Man Bongo bass that noone likes so... Attraction is a weird thing!

Yep, that is just you.  :evil4:

You picked as your example the most outlandish guitar Hartung has ever made....his version of the Dusk Tiger.  :icon_biggrin:

The ones I'm talking about are his "Embrace" models:

The "Embrace" models kinda remind me of the rear view of a seated woman.

I happen to like the new Gibson double-cut.  If it didn't say "Gibson" on it, I think many of us would be more charitably inclined toward it.  I think the curve that runs from the point of the upper horn down to the neck joint picks up where it should as the lower cutaway opens up.  It's not trying to be a mere rehash of the double-cutaway LP, and it's not trying to be yet another PRS knockoff.  Would I buy one?  No, I wouldn't - but that's a matter of me preferring to just assemble my own from components, and not of there being anything fundamentally wrong with the looks of that particular model.

But as usual, it's differences of opinions that make horse races.

Like Microsoft (albeit on a different scale), Gibson has become one of the companies everybody loves to hate. They're highly successful in spite of themselves, which makes you wonder what things would be like if they weren't run by mindless, self-serving bureaucracies.
