Heyo all, new member here.  Figured it's not worth saying hi without putting up my new purchase for you all to see.

Gecko 5 medium.  Flame Maple on Alder.  Fresh outta the box, about to be setup for a nice tasty staining:

Haven't decided on a neck yet, but I'm considering Wenge with a Pau Ferro fret board.... I've got a month or so to mull it over though.

my jaw hit the floor when i saw that pic! If all flame maple looked like that, I'd definitely consider it for a build! Great looking bod, dude! :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

Hey! Awesome body there!!!!!
I think this one would be ace with it (with blac hardware)

Yeah I was stoked when I saw those flame markings.  I'd been trying to figure out what to get for awhile and then I saw this.  Well worth it I think!

Oooo nice neck, I like that.  I'm definitely going with something dark I think, black hardware is definitely where I'm taking it.  Can't wait to get paid so that I can continue this build.  Oh yes.

Man, that is one beeeaaauuutttiiifffuuulll Gecho  :glasses9:
I have often wanted to learn the bass, just so I can wear a nice axe like this!
I love the elongated shapes of basses.  They just look smooooth...
Let's be seein' more pics of this as you progress.
:kewlpics: :rock-on:

There shall definitely be more, I've got a clear coat layer drying right now - so hopefully I can snap a few more photos soon.  Once I get more I guess I'll plop those into the Work in Progress forum :)

Now there's an entrance for you.  Nice top on that Gecko.

Welcome to the boards!  :occasion14:

I like this guy.

I like his bass, too.

Wow, congrats cmalidore, it usually takes 50 posts for Max to decide if he likes someone, you did it in 3 , I believe that's a record.

Bass looks good, keep the pics comming

I'd like to point out that this is my first build and I am already addicted.... not even friggin done on this one and I've started planning out the next one.  My bank account is going to throw a tantrum this fall I'm sure.

Then I am mightily privileged!  Mind you I'm sure I'll say something stupid soon and have it rescinded, but I'll take what I can get.

I, too, have had my eye on one of those Geckos with the wenge shims in the pocket. NICE top on that.

Hopefully it'll sound as good as it looks :headbang:

Yep, addictive is the correct word.  I'd bet you'll feel even more strongly motivated to build another, once this one is finished.  I couldn't stop after 6 Geckos.  :)

What pickups are you planning to put in this bass?  Tell us about the neck too...

tubby.twins: I saw your 6 down there in the gallery - gorgeous! (particularly fond of the Mahogany and Figured Walnut one)

I'm looking to try the Seymour Duncan Phase II NYC Passive Soapbars (I've got two basses that are active, tired of batteries right now) but I've yet to find enough information to know if they're right for what I want.  I'd like to find more info before I start popping out that kind of cash.

Neck wise, I'm still leaning to a Wenge neck with Pau Ferro fret board.  The body is now a Turquoise/teal color, so I think that would not only look nice, but provide a neat tone.  Though I'm totally open to other ideas if anybody has ideas :).  I'm hunching on the various woods here giving me some more mid tone play compared to what I'm used to.

I've only played the active Seymour Duncan pickups (ASB2-5) so I'm not familiar with their passive models.  If passive is your thing, I strongly recommend SGD.  They put out a lot of volume and have great punch and midrange.

That neck I showed you would fit the bill perfectly! Look and tone wise...

But a wenge neck would be awesome too... I might say that I'm not a big fan of the look of Pau Ferro (even it being brazilian :laughing7: )
Think a Wenge neck with Bubinga fingerboard would be awesome! Or Rosewood...

I'm not sure of this turquoise/teal, I think you'd better post a pic of how it's now then we could say...
If it's blueish, I think a dark brown/black or maple would be the best... light brown would look weird I guess...

Oh nice, thanks for that recommendation.  I may go that route.

I do actually like that neck you showed me.... I'm still considering it, though I really wanna try Wenge - not had the chance to play with that yet and I hear very good things.  Fret board woods I'm not as fixated on, so I'm still toying around there.

I'll snag a pic when I get home, but off hand I think it's leaning more green than blue so I'm leaning a little dark on the neck woods I think.... I just don't think maple would do it much justice.  Hmmm.  Indecisive powers activate!
