I have never had Dano GAS before. This is so confusing... what's happening to me?!?!

This kind of GAS is curable.  Presciption:  play one.

Yup. I can't speak for the old Danos, but the new ones aren't much to write home about. Too bad too; they're cool in that retro-quirky kinda way. Like an old SAAB...  :laughing7:

The problem though is that a guitar doesn't have to be good for any of us to GAS for it. Because of the possibilities of Warmoth, I've already planned on a quality 12 string dano copy, using a W body blank and neck. Who cares if Dano's suck, that won't cure my Dano GAS  :help:

It was mostly in jest. I know all about the heart wanting what it wants.  Addictions are great.  You want something so bad, and get it everytime.  Can't be addicted to something you don't get.  It's also rare to be addicted to something you're bad at.

Honestly, people can say Dano's suck all they want - but I spent the better part of an hour playing one in a music shop yesterday and loved it. Yeah it sounds cheap, but it has mojo and through a good amplifier it'll hold it's own. You just gotta know how to use it.

I'm actually thinking of buying one, because I never realized they were bolt-ons. So if i pick one up, the next time I go visit my parents in PA I can build a replacement body out of ash or walnut with my dad.  :headbang:

I think I already posted it, but I've been dreaming about a build like this for a while after seeing a Dano copy LP on the boards:

and i swear there was a version with lipsticks, but maybe not. the pickups could be swapped easy enough though

The S-3 is cool, but it lacks the monochrome color scheme and lipstick pickups that make it the Dano-hybrid i designed. I'd have put a different bridge and the Dano headstock in white, but the kisekae doesn't have those options. :(

Here's another showcase combination that moves my GAS meter needle:

flame maple on mahogany and wenge/ebony

Dumb question... how are you doing these image mockups? I assume just saving the individual jpegs, cutting them out and merging them together?

Yeah Disco, I'm doing it with Preview and Photoshop - on a Mac. First I call up the big picture of neck or body and do a selection grab in Preview (saving it as a jpeg). Then I open the body in Photoshop, silhouette it and clip it from it's background, turn it to horizontal, and add some length to the canvas for room for the neck. Then I just place the neck over the body and size it to proportion. When it looks right I do a save-as, then scale it to whatever sizes I want to use. It's pretty easy if you know how to use Photoshop. And one PS file can contain dozens of combinations to export, just by turning layers off and on.

Cool... I figured you were using PS layers. I do a lot of graphic stuff, so I know exactly what you're doing there. I just wanted to be sure there wasn't some special guitar maker generator thing for Warmoth that I didn't know about.  :toothy12:

Wow! That's a helluva piece of lumber, eh? Too bad it's a straight 9.5" radius, already fretted and nutted. Must be a return.

I notice it looks finished, but the order page allows you to select a finish. What's up with that?

Not a return and yes, it's got a clear gloss. Software hiccup fixed. We're just widening our stock neck specs just a bit in line with some popular custom build specs. That neck is outrageous in person. Show piece stuff.

it's too bad almost all those pre-finished necks end up with a gloss finish. i love the nitro! i guess the gloss is more popular than i had realized.

On highly figured woods gloss shows off the figure the best.

That BE neck looks awesome, Gregg. Is the skunk stripe ebony?

My only concern would be with how square the edges of the fretboard are, since if it's already finished. I remember having to take down some big-time sharpness on mine. :(
