GAS Alert!!!!

Y'know... you don't have to build the thing this week. If you love the body, snatch it up to get it out of circulation and stash it in a closet somewhere. It'll still be there later when you can afford the neck/bridge/tuners/pickups/etc.

I do that with necks. Every once in a while, you see something that you don't have an immediate use for, but it's so special that you can't bear to let it get away from you.

I just blew my wad on Christmas, though.  I've been trying to stay away, because the credit cards are calling my name.  The desire I feel vs. the spidey sense tingling makes me feel all "itchy."  Must be a symptom of GAS.  I'm not used to this...

Must. Not. Do. It.

Imagine letting Tonar put a clear to brown burst, but just at the bottom and the two horns, with the middle/waist clear to the edges. It'd be like a seal point Siamese cat. Assuming, of course, that you like Siamese cats.

I will love her, and pet her, and call her "Sheba"!

And I will rip your eyes out while you sleep, just for sport.

The moment I "commit" and I'm reaching for the credit card, I get this rush.  It's like a ... shot of heroin .. sorry ya'll.  But it is.  It is.  And then when you get that confirmation E-Mail, it's like................"I did it, it is done."  :help:

Yeah, that one I posted above is only $215!  Quilted maple on mahogany with a "bonus burl".  Heh.  Anyone else see the Rorschach Inkblot vaginas in those quilted maple tops or is it just me?

$215.  Man.

Looks like you're a fan of the black korina, too, vikingred.

I love the look of black korina.  But so far my favorite sounding and playing guitar is a spalted maple on swamp ash with a solid canary neck.  It has a resonance and feel that sets it apart from all the others, somehow.  Next favorite "sounding" wood is alder.

Those and faces show up frequently in figured tops. Has to do with the symmetry of bookmatching, I think.

...solid canary neck.

There's a canary j bass neck in stock at Warmoth.  Problem is I'm not a fan of the fretboard.  Ebony with pearloid blocks and an off-color off-center stripe running its length.  A canary neck is on my short list.

Bro.....the SOLID CANARY NECK, burnished to a glossy shine, and unfinished on the fretside is something to behold.

Canary is available for custom in the guitar shaft woods, but not bass.  I don't know why.  I was actually thinking canary with a pau ferro fretboard.  I wouldn't mind a solid canary neck if one came available.  :dontknow:  Then I also started looking at dark indian rosewood.

I think with this I've veered off the pure GAS intent of this thread.  I think I've been bitten, however.

There's an old joke about Rorschach tests. Man goes to the psychiatrist, he shows him an ink blot picture. The man says "That's a naked woman", and the same with the next one, and the next, and so on. After about 8 in a row, the psychiatrist says "Your problem is you just have a dirty mind." The man says, "I have a dirty mind? You're the one showing me all these pictures of naked women!!"

Hehe!

Reminds of the psych evaluation scene from the movie "Armageddon". Rockhound (Steve Buscemi) is going through the stack of Rorschach images, saying to the shrink "Woman with large breasts"... "Woman with medium breasts"..."This one looks like you, with breasts"  :laughing7:

Looks like saggy breasts too me... :laughing11:

GAS can even get you mid-build!  :laughing7: Blame it on the delay while I get around to a fret leveling job on my neck.

The Warmoth spalted maple top (last two photos) just haunted me - I've never seen a prettier one, except for maybe this one from Suhr...

And so alas, I bought it today and the body I was going to use for my build (my avatar) I'll sell..... hoping the neck I have looks great with it, but of course, I have one saved at warmoth.com as a backup if not.... and so it goes.  :cool01:

Now, black pickguard or no, I've photoshopped both versions and I still can't decide......

Looks good, Guitarzan. I think the white binding may conflict with a black pickguard. Too bad that doesn't have black or no binding like the one by Suhr. With the white binding, though, a white pickguard may look fine.

Another thing to consider is that Warmoth uses catalyzed polyurethane for their finishes, which is about as tough as it gets without going to epoxy. As a result, you can live without a 'guard without too much retribution unless you're a really violent or careless player. It may scuff a bit, but it's tough to scratch, and scuffs can be buffed out if they get to be objectionable.
