Seriously? You're not in the least interested by the elegant simplicity? I like it a lot.

You have to look at this in context - most folks on the forum enjoy their wood porn.  Swamp Ash is to "the girl next door" as Flame Maple is to "Victoria Secret model"

I really like arsewood....

Seriously though... People here probably consider me a coffee table lover or wood snob, but usually get more excited over a piece of Swamp ash or Korina over anything flamed or quilted...I am actually really excited about my (non W) pine body, and I would love a strat someday with a plain spruce top...

...everybody here loves their exotic woods and burst finishes.

Isn't that most of the reason the majority of Warmoth's customers buy into their solution? If their customer base simply wanted a pedestrian guitar put together by political prisoners or disgruntled and careless minimum wage workers, they'd just order one from the usual suspects and there'd be nothing to be proud of, nothing to show off. You can go into any Guitar Center/Best Buy or any online e-tailer and see/buy jillions of those any day of the week, often for less money. That's fine for parents who want to discourage their kids from ever playing guitar, or those with more money than brains, but I think we're dealing with a different class of player here.

Even those who do lust after a typical wood species construction with disgusting obsolete GM paint colors get to enjoy a level of quality that is rarely seen outside of boutique guitar builder's offerings, and for substantially less money. Plus, they get to have pride of ownership because they put it together and set it up themselves to suit their unique needs. It's a formula for success that I'm sure has Ken Warmoth living in a pretty decent house with a variety of interesting toys of his own, and he's probably not as worried about his retirement as many of us are <grin>

Call Me Some Time When You Have No Class-Rodney Dangerfield.. hehehehe i think ash looks great, 'specially with a colored trans finish.

I don't think so. Just looking through their customer gallery there are solid color strats for days. Seems like most of Warmoth's customers want a very plain instrument, but others want something truly unique and custom. Seems split about 60/40 to me. I would guess that Warmoth's best selling items in the body section are strat bodies already painted solid colors or in a sunburst. Best selling in necks would probably be maple or maple/rosewood strat necks.

And I'm definitely guilty of this :icon_biggrin: But I love my alder Lake Placid Blue tele deluxe!

I think half of it for me is that I get to put the guitar together.  I just enjoy the process and satisfaction of something I had a hand in.  The other half is that I can get a shorter neck on any type of guitar I want.

You know, Kevin, I really wish you wouldn't equivocate so.  It's hard to get a read on how you really feel.

...I just liked the tele... Sorry for the can o worms.
I find for me, both apply. I want wild and exotic- canary on Padouk, unusual- rosewood on cherry, and classic: maple rosewood on a solid ash. Each has it's appeal, and it's place.

Meh, whom I kidding- I just have GAS. I just want more. Much more. Enough to cause my wife grief.

I yam what I yam and that's all that I yam!

Actually the ash tele looks good. has me thinking
I am still torn about my next build, and that looks good with a goncalo neck

I think that Tele looks nice, but mostly because it's a Tele - a back-to-basics Tele is one of the cornerstones of modern music.

On the other hand if you were to show me a clear-finished ash Star body or Mockingbird, I'd call it damn ugly. Not because I don't like those shapes (I do) or because I don't like plain wood (I do), but because there's a time and a place for everything and pointy hard rock monsters with a clear finish don't work. At least not for me.

I think I may have met my match... Gibson ES-137

Of course I meet a new "match" every couple weeks :icon_biggrin: but this thing looks amazing.

Only thing I don't absolutely love is the 12th fret inlay. And the fact that changing any hardware in the thing would be a b*tch and a half... But that's most semi-hollows for you...

I know this is probably the most popular thing in the Suggestion Box, but how about a carved top singlecut semi-hollow Warmoth? Or a 335-style doublecut?
