That's exactly what I was thinking about before when I mentioned the Starcaster with a Firebird headstock instead. That sort of combination looks great though I think I would keep the headstock reversed, unlike Mr. Grohl.

Do love those not-f-holes though, and that colour. I wish I could get on with the massive neck heels they have, I'd buy one in an instant if I could actually get beyond fret 18.

My favorite is still the Gibson Vegas

But the world of Gibson ES guitars is very confusing. There's one guitar in particular that's about the size of a Les Paul, anybody know which model it is? I'm wondering if I'm thinking of the ES-339, but I swear it only had one cutaway...

It's nice to see a Firebird headstock that *isn't* the wrong direction for a change.

here is some GAS...right from China for my son.  It is a Gibson, set neck, 356 copy.  The Horns are a little off but the burst and quilt maple are amazing....frets and fingerboard are awesome...you would die if you know what I paid...

The ES-339 is roughly the size of a LP or SG. They have made Les Pauls with f-holes that were almost completely hollow too, I think the Epiphone version was just called the Les Paul ES (dunno about the Gibson one) - perhaps you are thinking of that.

I like the 339 a lot actually.  I like the 335, but it is a little on the big side for my tastes.  I like the smaller size better.

It came from JCPenny?

The 339 ad 356 are same size...just a little bigger that a LP

An friend of mine has a brother in China.  I think he works at the factory that makes guitars for all the asian brands...makes Gibson copies in his spare time.... :evil4:

It's the Gibson Custom Shop CS-336 that's a bit smaller than the 335 et al. It's roughly the size of a Les Paul. VERY nice guitar (at least when they debuted around 02-03) but not cheap, as you might expect. Not sure if the quality has gone to crap like most of the Gibbys I've pulled off the wall at GC in the last few years, but I'd definitely consider one if I had the spare cash.

I was wondering if the 355 was smaller as well.  I get confused with some of the number models.  This is why guitars need names.

My GAS normally centers around this:

and this:

I've seen and not played the Johnny A., but I've played a friend's Al D. It was sublime!

I noticed a couple of all ebony strat necks coming through the showcase RSS !!!
I wish I had the money for that now... :sad1:

Grabby, do you live around Lansing, MI?  Elderly Instruments is a few blocks from where I work. :toothy12:  I have to resist the urge to go there everyday.

No, I was in Ann Arbor for a few years, but just grabbed that pic from Elderly because it is a nice view of the Johnny A. guitar.

I do like seeing all the pics at Elderly for other guitars as well. They often have a J-200 which is my ultimate acoustic GAS...

I think they should do the original Fender Starcaster rtaher than an ES335.

The Starcaster was a bolt-on, as any Warmoth would be so nobody could whine about it not being vintage-correct or whatever. The Starcaster design also opens itself to more options; five control pots and a toggle switch is a clear improvement (of course it wouldn't be hard to drill it for an ES style layout either) and the slightly offset body compared to the more symetrical ES335 design would lend itself better to the contoured heel.

The only thing that isn't so hot is the headstock. I'd be tempted to put a Firebird headstock on it ala Dave Grohl does with his ES, or just an angled Strat headstock. Or the Warmoth headstock would suit it very well too.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the headstock either.  I'd probably put a Warmoth or LP headstock there.

Yeah agreed. There's already too many pointless Fenders available.
